Houston Announces Leadership Change in Baseball
Quote:
University of Houston Vice President for Athletics Eddie Nuñez announced Todd Whitting will not be offered a new contract. A national search for the next leader of Houston Baseball will begin immediately.
In his 16 seasons at the helm of the Cougars, Whitting compiled 498 wins, the second-most in program history, and a .558 winning percentage. The 1995 Houston graduate guided the Cougars to five conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and a berth in the 2014 NCAA Super Regional. A two-time ABCA Regional Coach of the Year, Whitting coached 13 All-Americans, 54 All-Conference selections, 49 MLB Draft picks, five top-five-round selections and first-round pick Seth Romero. Whitting also recorded 71 wins over ranked opponents, including a victory against #2 Texas in 2026.
"After careful evaluation, we have decided to make a change in the leadership of our baseball program," Nuñez said. "We cannot thank Coach Whitting and his family enough for their efforts and wish him and his family well in their next endeavors."
Also maybe lost in the middle of the season, South Carolina let go Paul Mainieri. Names floated around as a replacement: Interim Coach Monte Lee, Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall and sippie Asst.HC Nolan Cain among others.
