I understand that Pannell has not been as good here as what she seemed to be at Missouri. I just have to assume that Pannell practiced really well this week and she went with her instead of someone else.

This is actually the situation Pannell has been pretty good in this season. When she comes in to close out an inning she is usually good. When we try to let her pitch multiple innings it goes very bad very quickly which leads to her bad numbers.

A quick look at her outings this year to see if that is accurate:

Outing 1 IP or less (9 1/3 innings of work): 11.25 ERA
Outing over 1 IP but 2 IP or less (6 innings of work): 2.33 ERA
Outings over 2 IP (10 2/3 innings of work): 2.63 ERA
Overall (26 innings of work): 5.65 ERA

But I agree with you that it was the situation that we hoped she would be good in.

Again, it's just that Coach Ford crapped the bed in the portal at Pitcher as usual. I don't know if it's money or not. Maybe she's stubborn like Jimbo. But she's been awful in the portal acquiring Pitchers just like Earley, who will have wasted our 3 professional hitters that are about get drafted when we should've been legit Natty contenders with them but aren't. Not in this for a participation trophy in baseball though I guess just appearing in Omaha would be nice regardless. But in softball, just getting to OKC would've been an important step with this roster.

I will moderate my statement and say she is better in less than an inning more often than not. She has 11 games with 1IP or less, 7 with a 0 ERA, the other 4 were really bad and included the complete meltdowns against OKSt and UCLA.

Tough day for KP so far. Struck out to begin and end the 1st game, doubled off in a key situation in game 1, and an error here in the 1st inning tonight.

Lessentine dominating, riseball is on tonight!

So much for the narrative that Lessentine was too injured to pitch a few hours ago.

We gave her the ball in an elimination game tonight and she has gone 5 IP and given up only one hit. The one run UConn has is unearned off of our 2 first inning errors. Lessentine showed maturity and resolve getting out of that first inning when her defense was not playing great.

I say give her the rest of the night off because we will need her starting one of the games tomorrow and likely in relief in the other.
