Is it talent or coaching (or both)?

It seems we should be able to pull in quality arms, either through HS recruiting or the transfer portal. I wasn't all that impressed when Earley brought in Kelly as the pitching coach, and even less impressed after what we've put on the mound this season outside of a one or two pitchers. What is the core issue that we can't find three decent starters?

It's a major lack of talent due to our coaching staff's inability to recruit SEC caliber pitchers and a severe inability to develop the ones who are here. At a minimum, Kelly needs to be fired the moment the season is over.

Stop wasting money on crap bball that few care about and go buy some pitchers for the one men's sport where the Ags have a chance to win it all.

Wondering how much Hacopian, Partita, and Keller cost? Why didn't Partita pitch?

You don't believe we have a chance to win it in football?

That's a hilariously stupid take.

I would love to hear our pitchers' honest take on JK. Especially those who played for Weiner and even Yeskie. I'm not convinced they're sold on his philosophy.

Top talent doesn't want to go somewhere they don't believe they can be developed. Pitching needs a long, hard look at changes moving forward.

We've had exactly one shot in the last 86 years. Not too crazy of a comment.

Oh if there was just recent history that shows non blue bloods can win it all in this new landscape of the game.

Well, the fact that not a single pitcher followed Yeskie or Weiner to their new schools says something about them.

recruiting is a big issue, some of the guys we have out there were decent in High School but in no way SEC talent arms. But the biggest problem is those guys did have some upside, some projectability....but there has been ZERO development at all. Unfortunately that is the beast of NIL, Colleges don't recruit guys and develop them anymore....they recruit who can play at that exact moment and the portal allows them to do this.

Id really love to see a bullpen session with kelly and his pitchers to see what is worked on mechanically and grip wise, or if its just more of an on your own throwing session? Because very little shows up on the game mound. Tells me not a lot of quality preparation is being done.

I tend to lean more to coaching. I just look back at Yeskie's last year. Guys couldn't throw a strike and we pitched scared. Next year under Weiner guys took off. Cortez was night and day different. Good coaching with pitchers makes a big difference and a big part of coaching pitching is instilling confidence. I've thought since day 1 under Kelly our pitchers appeared to be pitching scared.

Purely anecdotal, but NOTHING about JK inspires me, especially if I'm a badass pitcher. He's as dry as toast, isn't necessarily the poster child for confidence and discipline, and I have yet to see him really show any fire or emotion to speak of. For those reasons, I imagine it's successful selling of the program (recruiting) and coaching.

Especially with Earley's personality, I think it would behoove us to get someone that's got some passion and fiery personality about baseball for our pitching coach.

The pitching lab will go a long way of leveling the playing field with regard to recruiting pitchers. It has been a struggle for this reason. This comes from the man at the top.

Nate Yeskie is an awesome pitching coach and was not the issue. Yeskie and Schloss did not see eye to eye.

This is correct. We have been severely hamstrung by our facilities. I remember Bruany saying Paul Skenes wouldn't even give us a shot because of it. Childress was able to combat it by being highly regarded as a pitching coach. POS is a good coach that players will sign up to play for due to his track record and Yeskie was highly regarded. Same reason Early can still recruit elite hitters despite horrible facilities.

Now that we'll be on level playing field facilities wise, we'll need a pitching coach that can go toe-to-toe with the other elite teams. We might have the same facilities but any other school can point to JK's track record as a negative.

Jason Kelly Bio

Coach Earley may decide to make a change I get that. But reading JK's bio shows me a quality pitching coach. It's easy to scapegoat Coach Kelly but I'm not convinced he's the issue. He spent years at UW as pitching coach, then got hired by LSU as pitching coach and then left to go back to UW as HC. Careful with those pitch forks.

The sheer number of people on this site who seem to believe NIL is a pool that is shared between sports is truly astonishing. Tell me you know nothing about how donations and earmarking work without telling me ...
McInnis

Reading Earley's comments he seems to be saying there's a mental toughness issue. One play yesterday changed the entire game. They had runners on first and second with no outs, and they tried to give us an out on that bunt that we couldn't handle. Everything snowballed from there.

Maybe it was a mistake to pull Darden then. He looked dominant in the first two innings. Got through the first with 7 pitches.

Anyway, I've given up on hosting a Super Regional, but does it matter? If my reckoning is right the Aggies are 10-5 in conference road games, 6-6 at home.

I would advise you to look at financial reports comparing to the two sports big guy.... let me know which one brings in more revenue to the university. I guess that will a better depiction of who cares about it.

I don't care how they spend their money to be fair, but whining about the pitching situation while watching a parade of mid-level arms on the mound makes it pretty easy to tell where the problem lies.

How else am I supposed to interpret those statements? Explain to me how the athletics department and coaching staff is supposed to take money away from basketball and use it for baseball instead? That particular money is not fungible, transferable, or in a pool.

You want more money available for baseball to buy better players? Donate the big bucks to make it happen.

Agree with this. Hunter Vincent is a perfect example. He has by far the best stuff on the team, but can't get innings because he has zero confidence. With a pitching coach that has any inkling what it takes to develop pitchers, that kid is our friday night guy as a freshman.

Partida, Kellner, Wilson are examples of freshmen with confidence. They got here with that in tow. I don't know how it is that you think a Pitching Coach can instill the necessary confidence to be a Friday night starter as a freshman. Vincent is no way mature enough to be a Friday night starter and no pitching coach out there is going to get him to that level of confidence to do so.

We do not have the arm talent right now and they are doing their best with what we have

Disagree that the arms aren't talented enough. It's the 6" between the ears that's lacking.

So whose to blame for not having the arm talent?? Seems like the staff misjudged quite a few of our pitchers. Kendall Rodgers has been saying for months that Sdao and Moss are not starting pitchers. Yet, we ran Sdao out there on every Friday night up until last week.

We have arguably the best team in the nation if you exclude pitching. The depth is just incredible. Guys like Royo who haven't been able to crack the lineup. Binderup hitting over .300 but not playing until guys went down.

Seems like the staff would have realized this in the off season and prioritized getting arms to back up this loaded lineup. Guessing Hacopian got the most NIL of any portal signeee. Absolute stud, but we would have been much better off trying to get a legit weekend starter with the same money.
