Few were as popular as C.E. in Aggieland and I was just a friend for a blink of an eye, being on the architect team to design his new Borski-built Aggieland home on Burt St that features a baseball in his brick chimney, signed by him. He appeared in coffee house ads where he was always making new friends and inventing - like his oil field tools - new quips.

I hope others will share more of these few quips he laid upon us the the drafting room as he came by to "check on his house plans" = coffee & gab. These would only be the tip of the iceberg.

  • I want a REALLY bright light in my bathroom, maybe 500watts! Why, Mr. Olsen? I want to see what I'm doing!
  • Anyone back here have a dry pocket? Mr. Olsen, what are you up to this time? I need to pee!
  • It's important for me to have a doorbell button next to my bed. What is that for? It's to ring up my wife in the kitchen to tell her I'm awake, ready for breakfast in bed. Well, OK ...... Oh, yeah, she's need one also - to tell me to go to "heck"!
  • My deal with my wife was that I would take great care of her the first 50 years of marriage, THEN she would take care of me .... so design whatever she wants!
  • I want the garage to be built first with a jacuzzi bathroom, HVAC for sleeping. Why is that, Mr. Olsen? I want to supervise from the garage on my frequent trips up from Houston the building of the house.
  • Rent a trailer, park it on the side street. What for Mr. Olsen? To hold all the good deals we find in materials & fixtures along the way. I'm a shopper.

He did not invent those tools, my wife's grandfather did- J Arvid Peterson '14. He hired Olsen after his baseball career was over. Pat was a student under her grandfather and they became friends and he brought him into the company.

Her grandfather started Gear Wrench, located in Clifton, Texas. The trade name for his family of tools was Petetools (after his last name Peterson).

I was hoping it was a bit earlier. I just bought Tom Borski's personal home that he built in 1965.

I worked at the original Copy Corner back in the day in the old post office near the corner of what is now George Bush and Texas. Pat Olsen would come in regularly with comics out of the newspaper that he would make copies of to, I assume, share with friends.

One day I ran down to the Academy (was near where Rally House is in the strip center next door at the time) and bought a little league baseball for him to sign.
