Garage wall

I recently moved into a new house with a detached garage. The interior walls of the garage are currently bare 2x4s. I was thinking about lining the garage with white pegboard. My main motivation for doing so was to try to give myself more wallspace to hang tools and get everything that is currently sitting on my garage floor cleaned up. Also, I figured it would result in a more finished look for the garage.

I started lining some of the wall, and so far it looks pretty good and really brightens the place up. However, the only issue that I have with it is that the dark repetitive hole pattern against the bright white board color can feel visually busy and strain your eyes. I am thinking that this might become less of an issue as I position items against the wall or hang tools to cover some of the wall up to break the pattern. But I am a little concerned that lining the whole garage with this pattern might be a little much.

Anyone ever done something similar to this? Or any other suggestions for what people have done with garages that have the bare 2x4s exposed?

You need some tools up there!

I'm personally a big fan of the white pegboard. Different setups work for different folks, but I don't have any issue with the straining effect you're describing.

I've got multiple walls covered with it and it suits my needs very well. The white helps brighten things up. I've shared some on here before:

I originally had a bunch of pegboard up and it was nice for years...but eventually the humidity got to them and they swelled and warped. I decided to insulation and finish my garage and added a mini split. Made a world of difference. Just be prepared for humidity would be my suggestion.

Should've put some batt insulation behind it first.

My neighbor did bottom four feet of exposed plywood, it helped to break it up and you never put pegs down that low either.

My dad did unpainted pegboard that didn't have the eyesore.

Consider doing a section that is French cleats to hang a bunch of stuff from

Trying to decide what to do in my shop as well. It's a 20x30 and will do closed cell foam. Not sure yet what I want to use for walls on the inside.

Anyone else willing to post some pics for inspiration?

Thanks for the replies to this post. I appreciate it!

Got busy over the holidays, so I haven't done anything to the garage over the last few days. But I guess in the next week or so, I will probably plan on putting more of the pegboard up, start hanging some more of my tools, and see how it looks.

tgivaughn: I tried to fix that link. Hopefully it works better now...

Thanks for your input, and sharing that photo. That helps!

As an aside, I currently don't have a workbench, so I was also in the process of thinking about what kind of workbench I was going to make or purchase to set up in my garage. Your setup with the workbenches built over the side-by-side toolboxes is definitely inspiring.

We just moved back in from a remodel, so the garage is stuffed at the moment. There's a pic somewhere on here of my set-up.
My walls are finished, so I framed out for the pegboard with furring strips. I turned 4x8 sheets of pegboard sideways and ran around the upper part of the wall. Since everything was hanging, I didn't want drawers. I made a 16' work bench with 4x4 posts and 3/4" plywood top and mid shelf.

Found the pic…
