Stub out would be 70 feet from gas meter. Trenching required, entire run is under grass only.

I was just quoted $5k for this. (Pearland)

Is this outrageous or are my expectations?

I don't know what it should cost but that seems ridiculously high. You can buy a lot of propane bottles for that.

Plumbers like to plumb not dig. When a plumber is a digger you pay accordingly.

Get a 30 of 40 lb propane bottle, will last a year or more of cooking

About 3 years ago I paid roughly $500 for a ~75' trench and $1200 for plumbing with 2 stub outs (1 for 2 grills and another for a fire pit). I handled the inspection/permitting but that was only ~$50. This is in the Denver metro area, where things are generally more than TX.

If you have any landscaping that needs to be done, I'd combine that with the landscaper doing your trench too.

I have a contact with a guy in North Houston (may go out to Pearland?) but he charges roughly $14 per foot and he will even backfill if you have your yellow supply line onsite and ready to be installed. Your distance would represent roughly ~$1K cost to dig and backfill trench.

I'd say it's a little high but as mentioned above plumbers don't like to dig.

If you can find someone to do the trenching and backfilling you can ask the plumber to take that out. I'd say with two risers and the poly pipe and his time to hook everything up and get inspections/permitting you'd still be looking at around $3,500.

We build a ton of outdoor kitchens (Creekstone Outdoors). That price is way too high. Is there a permit involved? Are they doing a landscape repair on the trench itself? We don't just do gas lines but on an outdoor kitchen quote we would probably charge half that.

I agree, it might be high but he may have a sub that is charging that because he doesn't do that himself.

Do this - propane gets hotter than NG and if you forget to turn off the grill your only out 1 bottle instead of realizing you left the grill on the next time it rains and you wonder why steam is coming off it…

Also, I forgot to mention, ask for the plumber named Chris. He's a guy that has done a few jobs at my house from Epic and he is extremely thorough and does very good, clean work.
