Just wanted to get a reality check on this quote. I've had two companies come out so far and this is the lower one. The other was almost 22k for similar equipment. Replacing 13 year old Lennox system of same size and number of zones as quoted. If this seems reasonable I guess I'll just do it and pass on getting more quotes for $95 call fees.

Seems like you are replacing a lot of things that may not need replacing or maybe you are upgrading the system. Recently did a 5 ton 15 SEER for half that. Inspected the return and supply plenum and determined to be in good condition so he excluded from quote. Furnace was also in good condition. Did offer a discount to replace the furnace now, but he did not think it was necessary. Only cheaper now to get everything new than do it twice. All the misc. stuff like cleaning lines, vacuum, insulate etc all standard.

Why the new zone system? He looked at mine, but never even mentioned a need to replace.

Seems a little high. Most of those line items are just what you have to do to install it.

I would get more quotes and include quotes for variable speed systems.

To get the energy efficiency bump you have to replace the blower typically and if you do that you have to do the furnace.

Skip Ruud and get a Trane. Upgrade to 2-stage.

He said the dampers were attached to the plenum and they would need to replace it. I didn't push back but did wonder why if it isn't damaged or anything.

Second company did give a quote for 2 stage trane system but it was 26.5k plus 3.5k for the dampers. For that price I could replace my upstairs unit too which is going to be needed soon

I paid over 14k for a 5 ton two stage with variable air handler and a zone system in 2011 or so so that price for 2025 doesn't seem bad at all to me with what you are getting and the warranty. Doesn't hurt to get multiple quotes to see what other options there are and how they affect price. I'd start with the advice above with 88agswin on quote. He did not quote my system but he did come quote fixing a hack install when I finished out my upstairs and the GC contractor jacked up a 2 ton install. He's been doing this a long time.

I had a 4 ton Lennox variable speed heat pump installed at the beginning of the year. I paid $12,105. It's a 20 SEER2 system. I'm in Central Texas, so pricing may be better here.

I was familiar with the contractor's work, so I was confident in their ability to install it well.

I did get two other quotes on the same system. One was $14,500 and the other was $28,500. The second place bidder did my sister's heat pump, I was impressed with their work. I wasn't familiar with the work of the high bidder...and never will be. I have plenty of HVAC experience in my past, so I know good from bad work.

My 6 year old 4 ton Ruud's compressor locked up (5 year warranty of course)

I was quoted close to $10k to replace the entire AC system. Fun.
I'm just trying to get through the next couple of weeks then I can worry about it in the spring.
