We're on Wellborn Water. Our house was built 10 years ago and even after probably 5 of those years, most of the plumbing fixtures were hosed due to all the mineral buildup. Is there a good solution to this? I don't know if our water is considered super soft or super hard, but can a softener or RO system be installed? Or are there higher quality fixtures that don't react with the water the same way?

I have no idea but am wanting to replace the affected fixtures and don't want to have to go through this again in a few years. TIA

Soft. Lots of salt. Corrosion like crazy.

OK, so what can be done? I assume you wouldn't put a water softener in a house that already has overly soft water, right?

Start with getting your water tested. There are basic kits on Amazon. You may need a more detailed test to determine actual minerals in the water.

RO is only good for small quantity like drinking water at the kitchen sink.

Best bet may be a whole home filtration system.

SOP = Soft
Culligan/equal gives free water tests and offer various whole house systems, with RO being the best* but you might not need to spend the most for that option.
* according to Texas A&M AgriLife Turfgrass manager in a Garden Success/KAMU-FM interview

Our Wellborn water is so "salty", hose/sprinkers have killed Sea Greens, pines, anything not salt-tolerant and finally we got important copper/brass corroded connections replaced by pros, e.g. hose bibbs, WH & Clothes washer valves, etc. but that's another story ....

Locals know never to buy "gold" bath hardware/fixtures!

History: in early 1980s the Wellborn water wells produced the most delicious water EVER and pared with good Scotch like Heaven on Earth. Now ... look up from where their water comes.... and judge.

If you want to install RO you can get a small system under the sink and tie it into your fridge...

If you want whole house... Pay some cash and get a plumber to come in and segregate your outside plumbing so that lawn and so forth isn't going through the RO.

But as others have said, get the water tested and then see what you're dealing with.
