I've got a rain bird system set up to a Rachio controller.

I've got a zone that won't run even after I've replaced the solenoid. I can hand turn the valve open and it runs fine but for some reason nothing when programmed with the Rachio. The Rachio says it's running.

I'm guessing I need a new valve but want to verify.

Full disclosurewhen you have three valve boxes clustered together, make sure you verify which box goes with which zone.

I've fixed the system.

Could also be bad wiring somewhere

First things first:
1. Is the solenoid getting power? Does the voltage to it change when the controller has that zone on vs off?
2. If it's not getting the right voltage, check the voltage coming out of the controller. Or Switch the wires with a different zone at the controller to see if that zone on the controller is messed up.

I changed the wrong solenoid on the wrong valve. All three zones run now.

Thank you for the help.

I'm back. The zone I fixed is still working and so is the next one. The rest of my zones no longer turn on. The Rachio says they're working, so that different than the solenoid issue.

The zones I fixed were 1&2 and the other 12 zones aren't working.

I assume they were working before you repaired 1&2? Did you dig around both valves? I would go ahead and dig out that area again and see if you cut the common wire.

I didn't have to dig, they were protected in a box.

you have a wiring problem after those valves (the valves you just worked on) and its more than likely the common (white wire).

I had this happen on my rachio once and it was due to my moving all of the connections while working on the broken one.

Had to merely remove and reseat every wire into the rachio.

Thanks everyone. I went back and fixed the wiring nuts that connected the solenoid to the common wire. There was a lot of mud on the bare wires. Everything works now.

what kind of wire nuts are you using?
