Out of an abundance of caution, I want some outside opinions on this one.

I have to transport a pre-hung half-lite door out to my cabin. The hangup is I have to transport it with my tailgate UP because I will be towing a travel trailer. I have never transported a door with glass this way. A little less than two miles of the transport will be on an unpaved and bumpy road.

My inclination is to load the door with the glass closest to the cab and the bottom of the door on the tailgate, since the tailgate end is most likely to bounce, and put as much foam as I can between the contact points.

Anything else y'all think I can do to make transport safer?

I just hauled a more than half glass door from del valle to round rock.

Maybe take the door out of the frame, position it the way you described, and ratchet strap the F out of it on the tailgate side. Put the frame in the travel trailer.

Maybe lay it on the floor of the travel trailer?

Won't fit. The interior measures 70" x 78".

Strap it to the back of the travel trailer, you just want the glass vertical, not horizontal. BTW, the door can be standing up, or on it's side, but the glass should be perpendicular to the ground.

Couple of 2x4 skids from front bottom of bed to top of tailgate. Gives the door something to lay on instead of flexing the door. Pad the F outta the space between the glass/door and 2x4's.

This is my setup. (I have a different F-150 now)

We did a full glass door in the frame laying flat from Conroe Home Depot to BCS. No issues at all.

I think it will be fine if you drive carefully.

I called the manufacturer today to ask how the doors are constructed, and the glass unit can be easily removed, so I may just remove the glass for transport and store it safely in the cab. It's all about that last mile and a half on dirt roads.
