Howdy -- I am interested in putting solar screens on one side of my home (west side). My home faces West and one of the front rooms is my son's bedroom which gets very hot in the evening time as the sun begins to set. It becomes anywhere from 5-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Would these solar screens help with this? Anyone have experience with these? It is only an issue for the brutal summer months so I am looking at these screens as a cheaper option. Thanks

I had the same situation as you and they were totally worth it. $566 for 5 tall windows. If all your windows are rectangular you can DIY but mine have arches at the top which requires a bit more skill to get the correct radius of the framing, so I paid a professional and it doesn't look janky. The guy spent a long time taking measurements of everything, especially the arches.

Good to hear, thanks. Apparently I have to get HOA approval first. All of my front windows are rectangle with no arches so I should be able to DIY it pretty easily.

I had an east-facing house with 1970s windows. The solar screens absolutely helped out with my situation.

We put solar screens on our living room windows that faced the evening sun and it did feel a bit cooler in the room. Also check with your electric provider and see if they issue any rebates for the solar screens. I know BTU does.

Our West facing bedrooms were noticeably cooler with solar screens.

If you already have full screens, you can buy the screen material and use your existing frame. You will need a tool they looks like a pizza cutter; it pushes the rubber gasket into a channel and that keeps the screen on the frame.

I think total cost for 6 windows was under $100.

Anyone tried tint vs solar screens?

Have installed them on numerous homes and they make a difference especially in west facing and also on east facing morning situations. They are also an economical solution to updating the exterior look of the house without spending thousands to replace the existing windows

I have taken off lots of failed tint and replaced with solar screens. Have done tint to full glass garage doors that faced northwest and it helped a lot with afternoon sun and glare.
