How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bought a house a few years ago. I'm now ready to start tackling some projects. One of the big ones is the sound proofing / sound reducing the master bedroom. My kid can hear my phone calls from behind closed doors when he's upstairs. How do I eliminate sound coming out of the room - especially the ones at ...well....you know....at night?

#1 only b/c I'm not a tekky might be a 5-star rated headset that picks up your whispers and incoming sounds can't escape.

#2 a roll of foam or rolled terry towel squeezed under your MBR door would try to seal off sounds that can escape even through a keyhole.
#3 would be stuff similar sound barriers into your AC vents or at least hang carpet, et al. to buffer sounds outbound.
#4 ... as we escalate costs ... carpet/pad his room and all floors leading to it, maybe walls as well
#5 involves all sorts of floor, wall, ceiling finish & materials that I judge outside a simple solution goal
#6 padded, sealed phone conversation closet or use the garage, or take a drive

A recording sound room illustration might give some ultimate solutions not suitable for a residence & its resale but good to see what they do.

Easy. Quit calling 1-900 numbers at 99cents a minute.

How do you feel about opening the walls? You can install acoustic foam insulation and cover it with sound dampening sheetrock. If your door is hollow core, replace it with a solid door

QuietRock works well and, compared to other methods with similar results, it's relatively easy. Not that replacing your ceiling would be easy... While you have the old ceiling out, throw in some insulation between the floors.

If you really want to be serious about it, It's always no matter what going to come down to the door.

You'll have to do some research into STC ratings, and again if you're serious, it's some $.

Also supply return air / duct locations.

Maybe look into ball gag's too?

Some home theaters will install a second layer of drywall with green glue between layers. May be easier than opening up the walls/ceiling to add insulation.

Why I built a 4-post bed that doesn't squeak and put speakers on 2 of the posts. Yes, my bed has a stereo system...with a subwoofer. If the music is rockin, don't come a knockin!
