Home Generator Installer Houston

I purchased a generac home generator and need to get it installed. Planning on having some concrete work done prior (expand driveway, pour generator pad and space for trashcans). Generator will be placed next to electrical panel and will run flex gas line from other side of the house.
Any recommendations on a generator installer in Houston?

Or is it cheaper to hire a plumber to run the flex gas line and connect to generator, an electrician to tie into the panel, and concrete work completed separately?

I used Holbrook Electric LLC, Kyle Holbrook, 932-222-7230
Only does Generac and has a Generac Installation Certificate. Took care of the gas and electrical. All was done first class and done right. Installation included pad. Walked through everything after installation. Has worked perfectly for the last couple of outages we have had. Reasonable price, much better than the Generac Supercenter pricing.

We did the opposite, put the generator near the gas line and ran the electrical through the attic to the panel.

It's cheaper to sub each item out yourself 9/10 times.

That being said, it's easier to have one person do everything because then they're responsible for everything being right instead of you. The reason I say this is I just watched this happen as a third party when the landscaper ran the conduit for the electrician and did it incorrectly months ago. Unfortunately no one checked it prior to it being covered up and it had to be re-done days before the generator was to be set.

Additionally, it may be cheaper to be by the gas than it would to be by the electric. A lot cheaper sometimes to run electric than it is gas. We charge $100/LF for hand digging for things like gas lines. Most plumbers will bid it with a trencher then you have to repair all the sprinkler lines they hit.

Food for thought.

I used Goldstar Electric for my generator hookup and panel upgrade. They were great, did great work and tidy work and everyone was very nice. They were very patient with me and my dad's thousand questions.

Before they showed up I had dug a trench for the gas and brought the gas line over to the generator pad. I leak tested and connected to the generator before they showed up so we were able to flip the switch when they were done working.

It was an 8k quote just to trench and install the gas pipe so I did it myself.

Every generator install thread I get backlash for this, but Centerpoint energy will no longer mark your in ground electrical lines from the transformer to your meter. If you got someone to mark it for you, great-they are specifically told by centerpoint not to anymore. I've had them out four times over the years and they have never once marked it. If you DIY your trench be careful. Rubber shoes and insulated rubber grips on the machine are a minimum for any digging.

I've gone back and forth with where to put the generator. Either by the gas meter or electrical panel. I can trench and run the flex gas line and save there. I was told with the cost of romex that it would actually be more expensive to run the electrical that far. I'm fine with either location just figuring out which is more cost effective. Appreciate the input. I had seen Holbrook and thought about reaching out to them. I'm in Seabrook area so hopefully they will travel down to here

Call Josh Barrett at Eldridge Roofing. They installed mine and did great job. I was in same boat and it was cheaper to run electric from one side than it was gas. His number is 281-422-0703. Tell him Cody referred you.

You could run the gas line through the attic.

I know this isn't what you are asking, but here is what I did. My gas meter is on the opposite side of the house from my electrical panel. I had a plumber run an extension with a quick connect about 30ft to the back of my house. I have a 75ft electrical cord and I believe a 75ft (or maybe 50ft) gas cord. Worked great for a few days after this last hurricane. I use a westinghouse 11500 generator. I'm probably in for about $2,200 for the whole set up.
