Needing to replace our dishwasher.

Best recommendation on brand? Currently have a Kenmore.

Not Samsdung.

We bought a kitchenaid in Jan '15 based on one of my customers recs that owns a large appliance repair company in DFW. He always said to avoid the shiny/cheap south korean brands like samsung & lg. He preferred American made. It performed well until last year. Noticed that the upper rack items were not getting clean. I replaced the diverter motor and I think it helped. The door frame/hinges started to bow out causing the door to drop past horizontal. Also the upper rack coating started to peel a couple years ago and is rusting.
After reading the forum and talking to my brother in law, I bought Bosch 800 yesterday at Lowes.

Bosch w/ Crystal Dry

Go to an actual appliance store and not HD or Lowe's. You'll find better quality options.

May be expensive but I have a 25 year old Bosch dishwasher that works better than my neighbor's 7 year old whirlpool, which broke last week.

We inherited the Bosch from my in-laws when they renovated their house 5 years ago. We were building a starter home and wanted to save on out of pocket costs so we installed the free Bosch. Every once in a while it doesn't want to reset the board for the next wash but I just unplug it and plug it back in and it's good to go.

Your mileage will vary, but personally I wouldn't recommend a Bosch 500....

Should be a fine dishwasher, but be aware your dishes will likely be wet after the cycle. If I'm not mistaken, that series simply uses a final hot water rinse to hopefully steam dry the dishes. They don't have a heated drying cycle or the "dry crystals" the 800 does.

I had to replace a GE dishwasher last year that I had bought in 2019. Just would not power on. Talked with a appliance repair guy I know, and he told me all GE's have the same problem, that the control board dies. And if you replaced it, it would be with the same board that would die in a few years. He suggested a couple of brands, and I ended up going with a Maytag that's worked well so far. He also told me not to spend over $600 - $700, as in his experience none of them last particularly long and buying a more expensive one isn't going to change that. I tend to buy cheaper appliances with as few as features as possible, anyway. The more cool stuff, the more things that break down.

If you go Bosch (which we love ours), make sure you install correctly. I want to say there is something special about the discharge hose you do to keep it from smelling.

Called local appliance stores, and they all stock Frigidaire only. Priced $300 over big box stores.

Recently moved into a new build with a 24" Stainless GE and do not love it.

I can confirm that some dishes do come out wet on our 25 year old Bosch dishwasher.

Have a GE dishwasher. Have already had to replace a sensor and the control board is going out. It's not even 5 years old. My next dishwasher will be a Bosch 800

We have a Thermador, which is owned by Bosch.

We replaced a GE with a Bosch about 4 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. At times I have noticed an odor coming from it when you open it up, if we have not used it in a while, but not to where it's been a big complaint. I've never noticed any dishes coming out wet either.

Highly recommend the Bosch. We found the 800 series on sale at HD for less than 1k out the door last year around Memorial Day.

I have had a Bosch 500 for ~5 years and it does a great job cleaning. Plastics often have water remaining and things like mugs that have a slight concavity no matter which way you place them come wet as well. We just crack the door and leave it open for a couple of hours. My routine is to start it every night after dinner and leave it open all night. There's been a handful of times I've needed to run it immediately after it finished and that is annoying but it's worth how quiet it is and how good of a job it does cleaning.

Agree with the general consensus.

Bosch 500 to save a little cash and you're OK with things not being dry.

Bosch 800 for great cleaning and dryness.

We've had both. Never any issues with the 500. We've had the 800 about a year. Every now and then the controls get a little wonky and it needs to be unplugged to reboot. Seems to be a common hazard of everything now with lots of electronics like a dishwasher with wifi.

Also if you go with something else, carefully inspect if it has filters and how they're cleaned. We used to have a kitchenaid that was horrible. It never really chopped things up enough to keep from clogging a grate and losing water pressure. And it had a flimsy chopper over the grate. You had to take out the bottom sprayer and several pieces to clean it. I hated it.

I think several of the other whirlpool brands share the same awful design. I ruled out any of those when we looked last year.

I think most newer models have better designs now with filter cups that pop out. But I have seen a few like this. Don't get one like that.

Any thoughts on Maytag?

I called all the locals and I cannot believe how high they are on lower end models.

1) NO grinder/disposer "toy" in ANY DW
2) The guts in Kitchenaid are the BEST designed to CLEAN and last the longest, a joy to use + now the machines last as long as the Bosch ... that you wish would die early
3) Bosch lasts forever while its ill designed guts don't clean well and begin to rust early on (Aggieland water)
4) moving in 3-4 years? Anything on sale that comes with delivery, install, dispose of old ... by pros, not a part-timer that can (and has) begat a fire

Bosch is one of the best options for reliability, quiet operation, and cleaning performance. If you're also managing kitchen equipment like coolers or freezers, keeping up with commercial refrigerator repair is just as important. For more budget-friendly appliances with strong service availability, GE and Whirlpool remain solid choices.

I wanted a Bosch 800 when ours finally wasn't worth fixing anymore, but thanks to covid they weren't in stock anywhere at the time. Went with a Kitchenaid and have been happy with it. My brother got an 800 last year really likes it.

We've had the bosch 800 for a week now and have been pleased. Yes there still is a little water sitting on the cups but its not hard to hit them w/ a towel afterward. Everything is very clean and its very quiet. Still trying to figure the best place for items. The only issue is when you have to lower the top rack to fit these DAMN waterbottles (kids & wife) you can interfere w/ the spinner if you have large dinner plates in the lower rack. You can lower just one side of the upper rack so its angled and that tends to work.

It doesn't have a heating element on the bottom like old school dishwashers. It blows hot air through a fan in the back right corner to dry, so no such thing as "top rack only" anymore. I've had the same issue with taller cups and water bottles. I just put them on the bottom rack and have never had any issues. The trick to getting super dry stuff at the end is to use crystal dry, use rinse aide (I used to think it was BS, but it actually does make a difference), and also make sure you're limiting places where water can puddle when you load.

It's 74 year old Mr Rattler brand........not only washes and rinses but dries them and puts them away too....
