I have a pretty slow swing speed…. 71 years old, still use Reg Flex…. but borderline Senior shaft.

Went to local DFW 2nd Hand golf store, looking for some razor blade irons like all us old guys used to play in HS…

Saw a set of Ping Blueprint Ts… Xtra Stiff shafts…

Took them to the Trackman bay and hit them… Felt incredible…

Carry distance numbers were a bit less (as expected), but overall distance was actually a bit more - due, probably, to lack of spin…

The feel was far better and more consistent… The dispersion numbers were tighter…

Tell me why I shouldn't start using XS on my irons…

I would think your main 2 reasons would be loft and LOFT.

Loft to get the ball up in the air and stop on greens.

LOFT… Lack of F'n Talent

What did your launch angle look like? I'm pretty sure that a stiffer shaft gives you a lower launch angle. I personally prefer lower, more piercing shots, but if you want higher shots you might want to go with a more mid flex. The blueprints are great irons. I'm actually wanting to buy a set of them myself.

No one makes you list your equipment specs next to your score. If you play better and it makes you enjoy that game more then go for it. I played a set of counterfeit Callaways for two years because I hit them well even though they were no better than a set of Walmart Wilson's.

If the numbers and feel suit your swing, there's no reason why you shouldn't use XS in that specific shaft. XS in another brand and model shaft is not necessarily going to suit your swing the same way. It's not the stiffness rating that matters, but the combination of weight, torque, kick point, etc that matters. That could be labeled "stiff" or even "regular" in a shaft from a different maker. Moreover, if your swing has an abrupt transition, maybe a stiffer shaft is a better match anyway.

Probably someone who was big on ego but small in...er...other ways....owned those irons. Regulars with an xtra stiff sticker.
