Curious if anyone has feedback on these clubs?
I've been taking lessons for close to a year to try and get myself from a hacker playing 6-10 rounds a year to being respectable on the course as I now have more time and ability to dedicate to the game.
I had a failed fitting a few months back. After warming up like normal, I developed the yips and was struggling to make consistent contact. Ultimately we decided to toss that fitting out until we had more reliable data, but of the 5 different clubs I hit the P790's the best by far. I've used them a few times since in my lessons and they've still felt nice.
I have rescheduled the fitting as I've progressed quite a bit since. A buddy of mine was fit elsewhere recently, and coincidentally these are what he ended up with. He is a much better golfer than I (probably averages 1-2 rounds/week). So far, he has said when he hits pure they are great, but he hasn't been hitting pure consistently and appears to be navigating that adjustment.
We will see how things go in the fitting, but if the results are similar I am a little apprehensive about the P790's at my skill level based on what my friend's feedback. I believe they are classified as a players distance club as opposed to game improvement. He historically has been a much better ball striker than I, but I have certainly narrowed that gap.
Just curious if anyone who hits them (or anyone with experience in this area) has feedback. I've had a set of Callaway X-22 irons for 15 years and they served their purpose up to now for reference. I'm a little apprehensive about jumping in to a players distance iron at my level. Or should I just trust the data if I see similar results?
I welcome any feedback the group can offer.
