I buy the money part, but not the handicap. Its already showing up on charity auctions and no such mention. Also your rich oil guy target market is going to bring clients, not necessarily competitive players.

Swung by there last week. This is the main entrance that is gated/locked with keypad access.

There's a separate member entrance but it's even more obscure than this one.

Just got Ranked 73 in Worlds Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Magazine…

Only course ranked in Texas. Pretty wild even accounting for how off rankings can be.

Golf Magazine only has about 100 people worldwide to submit their thoughts about rankings. On new courses that do not have many Golf Magazine panelist rounds yet - a handful of voters who really liked the course can skew the rankings a bit. They use a "buckets" or grouping system. Case in point - Wolf Point in Port Lavaca (now called TXO) Bought by the Dormie Network people in 2020 I think after the owner passed away.
Was ranked 1 in Texas ( 2020/21 ) and was in the "next 50" roughly equating to 100-150 in the World List by Golf Magazine.
It was a great single owner ranch golf course and well designed but nowhere near best in Texas and certainly not in the Top 500 in the world IMO. But a couple Golf Magazine guys REALLY liked it, put it in a high bucket, and it cracked into the rankings.
When more people played it the next year, it dropped out of the world rankings and is down to 7 in Texas.

I think Childress Hall will have MUCH better staying power than Wolf Point / TXO

Childress Hall should have two of the best in Texas. The Doak course and the Hanse course.

Yeah the whole general idea of these rankings are always skewed to begin with. For example: from one year to next a courses that have been around will move up/down a handful or more in the rankings. Its not like anything substantive has changed, but it makes for media fodder.

I am curious to see how as the general direction of course design has shifted if people like Tom Fazio lose courses out of the Top 100. The latest Golf Digest Top 100 he had 14, which is silly. As the love affair keeps growing with golden age and modern guys like Doak, C&C, and Hanse, curious to see how much real estate they take on the lists.
