Only as good as your last win….

They need to work on the penalties and red zone efficiency

Out of 136 FBS teams, your schedule is ranked 151st by Sagarin.

Tech still faces BYU and Arizona State, both top 25 teams.

I just looked at their schedule. I realized the Big 12 had changed, but I didn't realize it was so awful now. What a stinker of a league. If they don't run the table from here on out, they really suck.

College football defensive stop rate ahead of Week 7

as crazy as it sounds, Tech's D is legit......

"This offseason, Texas Tech set out to assemble one of the best defenses in college football. Five games in, the Red Raiders have moved into the No. 1 spot in our updated stop rate standings."

Yep. The Big XII is on par with the American Conference and the Mountain West.

Have fun in the SEC. See you in the playoffs.

If you make it.

The one at Houston, I reckon.

Granted, none of Tech's games have been exciting this year.

Sagarin also has undefeated A&M two spots behind 2-loss Notre Dame, whom A&M beat head-to-head, so Sagarin is a bit of a known idiot... don't you think???

When you are as good as Texas Tech, every schedule is the easiest.

Just so we're clear on this - Tech had an easy non-conference schedule. Embarrassingly easy. No question. Embarrassing.

Tech will finish the year having played what will probably be 4 ranked teams before the bowl/playoff season. Is it an SEC schedule? Nope. But then the SEC schedule is only as good as the SEC, and sometimes that is stronger than others. All that said:

I would rather Tech finish 12-0 than 8-4. But that's just me. Tech probably won't finish 12-0, but if they do they'll be in a discussion that they've never been in before, and I like it. A lot.

Come on, have you ever been to Rivalries before? I mean before Big 12-0 posted nothing but dumb ass bullsh-t on here. I'm supposed to demean every single thing Tech does no matter what and acknowledge nothing good about them. This used to be a good board back when people cared and it wasn't dominated by 60 year old men posting like they were 13.

Tech right now is like SMU was last year and Cincinnati before that. They are in conferences that have little strength except for a team or two. However, the pundits of the CFP have to rate them high and involve them or their conferences will become irrelevant.
It's no different than any other competition, be it football, NASCAR, boat racing, horse racing, or golf…..if you take out the 1st and 2nd place contenders (I.E. tu and OU) the third place guy can then maybe win something finally. TAM would no doubt have some SEC west championships if LSU and Alabama would have been gone.

we will see...

All a team can do is play the teams in front of them.....Even with some of the pancakes on the schedule, Tech's D stats are still crazy, 1 touchdown allowed in the first 3 quarters of 5 games (the others were in 4th Qtr when the starters were pulled) and destroying 2 undefeated teams on their home field....

who knows, maybe we can play each other in the playoffs

Tech may indeed bomb this season in grand Tech fashion. I guess we'll have to see how the games play out.

But this take tells me that you haven't watched this Tech team play. I'm almost 60 years old and have watched a LOT of college football, including 45 years or so of Texas Tech, and this team isn't like any Tech team before it. That estimation isn't based on seeing Tech play some weak teams this year (they have). I've seen Tech play weak teams. This is different.

Frankly, this Tech offense isn't as potent (yet) as it has been in years past. There are red zone execution problems, and lots of penalty problems. Tech's FPI rating on offense this year is uncharacteristically low, currently at 20.

But this Tech defense is something far different than anything I have ever seen. Tech spent a ton in the transfer portal to retool the defense, and it shows. This defense is easily, far and away, the best Tech defense I have seen. And it's currently ranked #1 in the nation in the FPI efficiency rating:

ESPN FPI

From the Dallas Longhorn News paper:

The season is still young, and it may go pear-shaped for Tech, but this team is making noise on the national stage and in the CFP discussion, and it's not because the CFP pundits have to rate them high. The current CFP projections, in fact, have Tech seeded somewhere between #8 and #11, typically below four or five SEC teams. So it's certainly not out of respect for the Big 12 (because there is no respect for the Big 12).

Sleep on this team at your peril.

Playing a weak-ass schedule is a time-tested method of getting into the playoffs, and all of the bowl systems that preceded them. Then you roll the dice, and who knows? On any given Saturday...

But don't try to tell us, based on annihilating terrible teams, based on the "eye test" vs. said terrible teams, or based on stats/metrics that ignore strength of schedule, that Tech has shown itself to be a good team. Yawn.

Have it your way. But so far there is little difference in Tech's schedule and Ohio State's, whose signature win was a badly overrated Texas team. And Oklahoma has one quality win over Michigan, but that's about it. At this point in the season most teams have played an easy schedule.

The best indicator of a great team is beating other great teams. So far only Miami has truly distinguished itself like this. For the rest of us, the only other indication is how teams dominate lesser teams. Halfway through the season, Tech is absurdly dominant.

From here on out, Tech has the easiest schedule of any top 10 team. We will likely play three more ranked teams, and have played one so far. Tech has the best odds of any team in college football of an undefeated season because of that.

Kudos to A&M for scheduling Notre Dame. I genuinely hope Tech gets to play A&M in the CFP.

No. Not hardly. She transferred due to a scholarship she was offered elsewhere in Microbiology and Chemistry. She felt she never would meet her potential at tech because it was too easy courses.
She also said that most of the students she met there either wanted to go to TAM and couldn't or were arrogant " West Texas t-sips". Her words, not mine.
