How far does this thing run in 2026? Cost basis is around 10.75. Bought in on the rec of this board in April/May When the tariffs were announced. Still a short term gain but trying to decide if I keep it or sell and tuck away some of the proceeds for a rainy day. Overall position is about 950 shares. It up about 50% YTD and hasn't slowed down. Not sure if the valuation still makes sense. Looking at RSI it's over bought now but it's hadnt been over bought on the rsi for months. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there is anyone (even Brian Earl Spilner) on this board who would recommend buying SOXL as a buy-and-hold. The built-in decay is horrible - it's a short-term trading instrument only. You have been fortunate this past year - I'd take your gains now.

That said, if you must keep it a few more months to get a long term capital gain, I'd buy some April $55 or $60 puts, just to hedge your gains a bit.

You are me a few years ago. I hope this is in a Roth or 401k account and not a brokerage?

First off, congrats on the huge win.

I would take it all of the table right now. The risk far outweighs the reward in the short term, IMHO. There's no need to risk giving a lot of it back, even if it's just to decay.

I wouldn't even look at re-entering right now until around $53.

If you're more of a buy and hold type investor and not a day/swing trader, I would just take the win and move on to other investments that aren't leveraged. I will only hold them for a few weeks at most these days.

If this is a brokerage account, I still think you're better off selling and taking the extra tax hit, but you pretty much have to decide if you want to risk having to sell at a much lower price in 3 months just to avoid paying more tax.

Alternatively, you could sell half of it right now (the highest cost shares), and sell the rest once they're long-term.

Out of curiosity… What percentage of your portfolio did you first drop on this last year?

If I was way up in SOXL, I would put a 10% trailing stop loss on it and let it ride,

those 2X, especially the 3X to 5X leveraged funds are not for the weak. You can lose your axx really quick. Make stop losses your friend,
