I've been on a few late night flights recently where they held it for a few passengers.

I've had United hold a flight for me and others when it was a late night connection at LAX to Sydney, Australia.

But... before I learned the game, coming in from Vegas and making that tight late night connection to Sydney, they did get me to run from the gate at the end of Terminal 7 all the way down and around to the gate at the end of the 80s gates at LAX.

The other fun one was running to catch that flight to Sydney on United at LAX and then having them push back from the gate and sit there for an hour because if they left at the posted departure time, they'd arrive in Sydney too early to land, go through immigration, etc.

I think to some extent you cannot execute your flight plan, specifically your assigned slot for the ocean crossing until you're ready to depart. Sitting at the gate might not qualify. Yeah that sucks though!
