Will be in Oregon on Tuesday. A few days in Portland then drive down the coast from Astoria to Lincoln City where I will stay for several days. Any recommendations on breweries, restaurants and must see scenery would be appreciated! Also where's the best place to see the stars on the new moon by the coast?

I posted some our favorites from our trip to the coast (and elsewhere in Oregon) last September on that post. I would highly recommend the Hilltop Cafe outside of Waldport and the Luna Sea Fish House in Yachats was good as well. There are a bunch of whale watching pullouts along the coast particularly south of Depoe Bay that would probably be fine for stargazing as long as the fog isn't in. The Cape Perpetua Lookout would probably be a great place to get up above the fog and most of the lights along the coast road as well, but it appears it closes at 10pm. Not sure how firm that closure is, but that is what their website says.

Cannon Beach is a must and has a lot of good restaurants and breweries. It's a very beautiful coastline there also.

Another vote for Luna Sea, their fried Tiger Prawns are amazing.

Skip the shrimp cocktail though, a friend of mine ordered it and it was a half cup of "salad shrimp" over cocktail sauce for $14, he was kinda pissed.

Pelican Island Brewery (I think that's the name) in LC is good with a great view. Usually pretty busy and a little pricey but we enjoyed our one trip there.

North of Tillamook is a little town on a cove named Girabaldi. Just north of Girabaldi is a great place to eat. It is on the water so it will be on your right as you head south. Pirate's Cove. A local place. Plastic seats in the booths with cracks in the plastic. The locals will look at you as you enter.

But GREAT food. Best oysters we have ever eaten.They come from a local bay. The medium sized oysters are the size of a CFS. Pretty view. Next time we went to Oregon we drove 3 hours out of the way to eat there again.

We have sent other people there and they all have loved it too.


PIRATE'S COVE

Google Maps says it's temporarily closed. The latest review was 2 months ago and it didn't bode well.

It has been almost 20 years since we were there.

Pelican Brewing in Pacific City has a great patio, and de Garde in Tillamook has some of the best sour beer in the world.

We stayed in Lincoln City for a night last summer and had a fantastic seafood dinner at Kyllos.
