I'm headed to Belize later this month for scuba diving. I'm debating on whether I want to do the the Blue Hole or not. I'm staying on Ambergis Caye and the dive shops around there state it's a 2 1/2 boat ride out there. I've heard it's pretty much just a big hole with nothing exciting and wondering if it's worth the 2 1/2 boat ride out there? I'll be diving a total of 4 days while in Belize.

Sounds like your answered your own question. Unless you just have a bucket list item to check off, I'd hit other places instead.

If they offer a trip to Turneffe Atoll, I would do that instead. The diving at the atolls is significantly better than off Ambergris.

If you like to dive deep, it is cool. Plus there are stalagmites down there, and some really big sharks. That's Blue Hole.

The second dive on that trip is usually Half Moon Caye Wall. This is the money dive on your entire trip to Belize. It is simply one of my favorite dives on the planet. This dive is why you make the trip.

You typically do lunch on Half Moon Caye, which is pretty cool. You can sit under the idyllic palm trees, go see the Boobies (birds) or snorkel in some amazing water.

Your last dive is usually Aquarium or something of the sort. It is better than anything you will do on the reef at Ambergris.

As mentioned, also do the day trip to Turneffe Atoll. It is also awesome.

Do the day trip. Do both day trips. Have fun!

It is unique, no doubt about that. I loved it mostly because I was fairly new to diving; the lore, the depth, the sharks...tons of them!

It was eerily memorable for our group because as we were about to jump off our boat, a girl popped up out of the water unconscious, frothing at the mouth. We pulled her onto our boat and one of our guys gave her CPR and she came around. She ended being okay. Turns out she was 'certified' in one of those island half-day courses and one of her first dives was the Blue Hole.

Anyway, looking back after many more dives, maybe it is not as awe inspiring now. And it is a long boat ride. But as Chicken Ranch said, it depends what you are looking for.
