I travel exclusively on UAL for personal trips and almost exclusively for work trips. Wife has us going to Disney world for spring break mid Mar. (I tried to make a play for a ski week in the mountains but was immediately overruled)However UAL is high out of DIA and insane out of COS and the times are pretty bad as well.

Question 1: I hear about SWA military fares but don't know anything about them, anyone here have any insight? Are they typically significantly less than published fares?

Question 2: It looks like the basic fares aren't assigned seats, until check in. Is there a chance my wife and I might be split up from our 9 and twin 4 year old sons?

Question 3: Is there any immediate value to signing up for the airline card for one trip and then CANX it before the annual renewal?

Thanks and Gig 'Em in advance for any insights.

Military Fares: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/article/Do-you-offer-military-and-government-fares

Child seating: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/article/family-seating-policy

Credit Card Benefits: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/article/benefits-for-rapid-rewards-cardmembers

Biggest card benefits are free checked bags and seat selection. I would not sign up for a credit card for a single trip if you never fly Southwest., but depends on what those benefits are worth to you.

interesting.. we're doing a cruise out of mia for spring break, and coming home, MCO-DEN was way cheaper than MIA. So we're renting a one way and making the 4 hour drive.

just hoards of drunkin college kids all over the ship 24/7, someone's tits constantly out at the pools. i was a college kid like that too once, so not hating, just def not a family-friendly atmosphere on those ships the week all the Florida universities are out on spring break.

we were in pretty rough seas one evening, so they drained the pools and place large nets over the tops of them to keep people out. during one of the late night dance parties a kid climbed up on top of a large speaker and proceeded to do a belly flop onto the netting over the pool. the net didn't do a thing to catch him and he face planted at the bottom of the pool. our ship had to make a 2am u-turn back towards Belize to meet a helicopter to get him to a hospital.

week long cruise + cheapest room was $5k.. I'm thinking it won't be that big of a deal. I'd guess college kids are doing 3/4 nighters.

And I for one welcome our new tits out at the pool overlords.

Unless Southwest recently changed their card (they've changed everything else, so they may very well have), the first year annual fee is not waived, and is charged in your first statement

he said annual renewal; I read that as a year after sign up.

Op, people do this all the time; it's called churning.

I've even cancelled after the renewal hits and have been successful in getting that fee refunded.

Well disregard when I glanced at the website briefly last night I had just assumed the prices I was seeing was for round trip, not each segment. Southwest was actually more expensive than United after all so I'll be sticking with United. But thanks for the insight.

The tits that end up coming out at the pool are rarely the tits you wanted to see out at the pool.

If that's the case, then why was it correlated with spring break and drunk college kids?

It was more of a general joke, not specific to spring break. But fat kids go on spring break too.
