Has anyone been and would you recommend?

We are looking to spend some points/miles and looks like we can get into Budapest and out of Munich for a decent deal over the summer. Was thinking of spending a few days in Budapest, then over to Austria before heading to Munich and going home.

Will be traveling with the wife and two teens for around 11 nights.

What are your thoughts and things to do?

Thanks!

Budapest was a great city to visit. Good food, lovely design of the buildings. Felt very genteel.

When we went it was almost 10 years ago. Orban was in the early stages of his taking control of power. I would just check to make sure his autocracy is not an issue for visitors.

Was there for a conference this summer and loved it from the limited amount I was able to get out and about. Wish I would have tacked on some extra days to see more.

Budapest was great. Try to take a night time cruise on the river to see all the big buildings like the parliament building lit up.
If you are headed toward Vienna, can knock off several countries like Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia also. I enjoyed Ljubljana and Bled especially.

Buda Castle

Birdland Golf Country Club

I visited in 2003 before they were open with the accommodation.

There's a lot to see and do in Vienna, Austria

And if you're driving between point A & B, I also recommend Berchtesgaden, Germany. But bring a jacket, it was 50 degrees F and rainy when I was there in May 2025.

And of course all kinds of stuff to see and do in Munich. I regret that I missed the technology museum this recent trip. But I did get to visit in the late 1970s and that's one of the reasons I've been fascinated with Engineering since I was a kid.

Went this past summer and no issues. In fact, it was kinda nice to not be surrounded by hordes of refugees and immigrants like other parts of Europe, due to his policies.
