They would love it.

We just got bsck last week. They have most of rhe all inclusives you'd find around QR.

We always stay at Nomade. It's a chain that is also in Tulum and always impress. The Holbox location the rolls are all tree houses.

With all the places to travel in the world, it blows my mind people continue to go to ****holes like Mexico

Ohh.. I don't know.. maybe price and distance?

We've done a full week at all inclusive for family of 4 for $2k and low point flights, (which are only 2 hours). Not gonna sit here and say it's the best destination out there (I don't think anyone is).. but it's a week vacation on a decent beach for hardly any money and easy to get to.

I don't know how this 'blows your mind'..

Also stayed at cabo hilton for $399 for a week.. with a $200 resort credit lol! Just had to sit through the hour sales pitch.. I'll do that all day for a $200/week hotel bill. I get these offers on the regular, and it's nearly always mexico as far as international/beach is concerned.

Costa Rica is a 3 1/2 hour flight

My two brothers have been in Costa Rica for nine years with a property management and tourism company. They manage over 40 vacation rental properties from Jaco to Bejuco/Esterillos on the Central Pacific coast. Some of the best fishing in the world and they have the contacts. Reach out as they are always willing to help educate anyone looking to visit or possibly invest. They will shoot you straight

We were in Cancun over Labor Day weekend with no issues. Granted we did not venture out too much.

We are also looking at going back during Christmas break and like anywhere be on your guard.

We went to Cozumel 3 times over the summer. Seems safe. My buddy lives there and I don't hear anything major from him (all places have petty crime, though).

We were in Queretaro and San Miguel Allende back in April and felt safe the whole time. A lot can change in six months though.

Was there end of September.

Still safe as can be. Stay out of bad areas and youre as safe as the US suburbs.

It amazes me how people are so averse to risk analysis.

How many people visit Mexico/Cancun/PDC on a weekly basis? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Multiply that number against how many weeks that something bad doesn't actually happen specifically to tourists and not cartel members.

What is the real risk factor? Infinitesimally small. Slightly higher than dying in a plane crash. Not zero. Never will be.

Weigh it out in your own mind and do what you want to do.

My concern is that as Trump continues to squeeze the cartels that they will start kidnapping American tourist as bargaining chips . A la Hamas. I hope I am wrong

The safest place to visit in Mexico is Merida. It's the second safest city in North America.

Mrida is safer than SMA, SMA safer than CDMX, CDMX safer than PV, PV safer than Tulum, Tulum safer than Cancn.

What is in the forefront of my thinking regarding travel to Mexico is that the calculus has recently changed for the cartels. With the border closed they are going to have to find new "sources" of income to supplant their "immigration" fees and mostly non-challenged drug smuggling. Look at the press conference by the Trump admin. re: the cartels yesterday for example 1. This is not the same environment of 9 months ago. They (cartels) are going to fight back any way they can; they don't like being told they are "being put out of business". The old detente to leave the tourist zones mostly alone appears to be going by the wayside. I generally assume all institutions in Mexico have been corrupted to some degree (from the hotel security guard, to the van driver all the way down to the maid) and act accordingly (i.e. keep a low profile).

I totally understand and respect everyone has different levels / perceptions of risks they are comfortable with . I personally am out for a while based on my assessment of what is going on.

I think some of you are over estimating the amount of heat the cartels are actually feeling. The drug trade is demand driven, blowing up a couple fishing boats isn't going to do anything. Going after immigrants isn't doing anything.

It's safe. And killing an American tourist is exactly the cover Hegseth needs to then take the war on the cartels to their front door. They know that. They arent gonna start kidnapping Americans. It would be the end of them if they did.

It seems like PV has been spared from the drug/cartel issues over the years although there has been a story or two that I have come across during that time.

We stay inside the Punta Mita resort gates every year (although we sometimes go to Sayulita and the little town next door) and the Nayarit resort areas seem safe. The high-end resorts continue to develop there, including a new Ritz Reserve north of Sayulita, so hopefully it stays that way.

From Cancun airport shuttle straight to ferry and go to Isla Mujeres. We've been many times but last went for a week in July. It's an island and isolated.

We are taking kid and grands to San Miguel de Allende for Dia de Muertos. I'm comfortable all around that area, Leon, Quetero, Guadalajara to a lesser extent.

Do tell us where is a few hours away from Texas that can compete with Mexico?

Spirit Flight to San Juan. Ferry to Vieques if you want. Took 5 people for around $3K. But I like adventure more than most...driving up in the mountains to the lechoneras, seeing different beaches. I just can't do the manicured drunk-fest more than once or twice. Anyway, price and location are great.

I would not step foot in PR. Daughter went with wife and group. One girl got separated and was dumped in front of hotel next morning after having been drugged and gang raped. This outside the Ritz.

Just a normal weekend for American teenagers on college campuses everywhere.

It's fine as long as you pre-arrange reputable transportation to/from the resort (we like Canada Transfers), stay at the resort, and even better venture to the resorts away from town - costa mujeres is a good option. This is the only way I roll (most recently last March), but even still, just not a big fan of Cancun and have no plans to go back. When we've gone, it's generally been with a broader group where it's more of "well, if that's where folks want to go, we'll go along"

That's terrible, but it's no reason to avoid PR. Like any American city, or other Caribbean locations, there are places to avoid, but having free run of the island is nice.

That said, I may hit one of these Mexican places in the spring. My wife has a lot of homework to do, so I think she'll like a boring beach.
