Anyone been there? Have two days available to explore and enjoy. Any recommendations from my Ag friends?

- Palomino Islands Boat Tour
- Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Armas)
- Lima Cathedral & Archbishop's Palace
- San Francisco Monastery & Catacombs
- Dinner at La Mar, Central or Kjolle (need reservations far out as they're some of the top restaurants in the world).

Yes. Miraflores area is very nice and we found a legit boutique hotel for about $90USD a night there. Best seafood I've ever had at multiple restaurants although I can't remember the names right now. Just do a google search and multiple world renowned restaurants show up. One in particular was Japanese/Peruvian inspired cuisine that would serve table side sashimi right from a whole tuna.

The exchange rate, atleast a few years ago, was very favorable where a 5 star meal will be equivalent in price to a normal ****ty chain restaurant meal in the states. Other than that, there are ancient ruins to check out that are cool, nice people, and really not many gringo tourists. Not really a party place or beach town, but overall an enjoyable trip where you won't feel ripped off or underwhelmed.

Edit to add:

Belma Boutique Bed and Breakfast for lodging

Maido and Central are musts for dining.

I visited there years ago. We didn't stray too much from Miraflores. Whenever you see a heavily armed military/police person stationed on every corner, that kind of tells you something. I would say the best seafood meal I have ever had in my life was at La Rosa Nautica (had to look it up - it doesn't look like much from the outside, but was amazing).

That's crazy, we didn't experience that two years ago but I guess that's South America for you. We took our 6 month old everywhere in a stroller to markets and parks and didnt feel unsafe. Ubers were super cheap too.

Another worthy restaurant is Punto Azul in Miraflores. Best seafood soup ever and still remember them bringing in live octopus from the market to the kitchen.

It was a good while back. That being said, we also went to Iquitos, to the headwaters of the Amazon, to Cuzco and we did the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu and didn't see anywhere near that level of police/military presence outside of Miraflores. More of an F16 comment, to which I am certainly not immune, but South and Central America certainly don't have great histories of having stable governments, by and large.

We enjoyed staying in Miraflores. I think we stayed at Marriott Courtyard. We felt safe the entire time, even with my 2 year old in tow. Still think about the ceviche down there
