Annual fee from $695 to $895 but adds a ton of new credits

https://thepointsguy.com/credit-cards/amex-platinum-2025-refresh/

Quote:

Up to $75 quarterly Lululemon at U.S. stores (excluding outlets) and online
Up to $200 annual Oura Ring (hardware only; not for memberships)
Up to $100 quarterly for U.S. Resy restaurants
Up to $120 for Uber One membership (subject to auto-renewal)

Hotel credit Up from $200 annually to $300 biannually (every six months)

Plus a few smaller adjustments like adding a few dollars to the digital entertainment credit. No changes to point earning rates.

We'll be keeping the card for sure (we actually each have our own, I know I know). We travel a lot and the 300/biannual travel credit is incredible. We've had great luck with booking through their portal, I think we've been upgraded on almost every single stay. The quarterly resy and Lulu credits will definitely be used as well. Overall these work out great for us but I'm selfishly hoping some people drop the card so the centurion lounges aren't as busy lol

I was going to cancel this year but likely keep it with some of these. These are things we would be doing anyway and now getting money back.

How does the resy credit work? Do you have to pay through resy? I guess im an old and have no idea how you do that.

You probably make the reservation through resy and pay with card at restaurant.

In a side note I noticed they give statement credit for Clear. So just signed up for that too.

just pay with the Amex Platinum card at a "Resy" restaurant.

Some people have complained about their options for Resy but there are plenty of good spots in Houston.

Just signed up for this benefit and going to coltivare for the first time next month before the Marine Band. Will probably be using it for quarterly date nights going forward. Hotel benefit likely to go unused though because I also looked at a hotel for that night and cheapest was $800/night and for that price I'm just going to drive back home. I'm cheap when it comes to hotels because we spend so little time in the room when we do get them.

Remotes to buy an ouray 3 just to try it out since it is essentially free.

For the quarterly ones like Resy and Lululemon, don't forget that the quarter ends in about ten days.

Wife made a Lululemon order last night right after they announced and I enrolled.

That's another thing, you have to enroll in those benefits.

same here. My wife and I like to do a date night at least once a month, and there's a ton of good options on Resy. This is a good way to get my cheap ass to remember to plan stuff.

The hotel credits are nice if you use them correctly. In addition to the discount, you get food and drink credits, free breakfast, early check-in, late check-out and occasional upgrades.

We used it in Punta Mita and got bumped up to a really nice suite.

I'm gonna switch to this card if I can do it before my Chase renews. Just have to figure out what to do with Chase so I don't lose my points (I think I need to downgrade but want to be sure). I'll check into it when I get back from vacation but want to be sure I don't get popped with the annual fee before I sign up for Amex.

We have beaucoup hilton points and diamond (I think) status so that's really the only hotel chain I go through. If I could have used that benefit for a free night on date night or something I would, but if it's going to cost several hundred dollars out of pocket to use it every time, it will probably go unused. I'll keep checking though.

We have a boatload of Hilton points but I'm stingy with them. Only use them on really expensive hotels. For example when we went to the Maldives or planning a trip to Hawaii. But, next year we're likely going to San Diego to watch the Astros in August. So will probably splurge and stay at the Omni at the ballpark since we get $300 back.

Have already used the lululemon credit. Our daycare has parents night out Friday so booked a resy restaurant for that.

yeah, there's scenarios where it makes sense to use points and where it makes sense to use the perks.

It's a bit of extra effort but there are good sites out there to help you value the different options.

It's not for everyone, but I like the challenge.

Post those sites if you don't mind, that is right up my alley.

We almost always use points for family trips. When you book with points it's something like book 4 nights get the fifth free so almost all our family vacations are 5 days lol.

Better start using those Hilton points up. They keep devaluing their points and now the nicer properties can be up to 250K points per night.

My Platinum just renewed so I only paid the $695 fee. Looks like I'll be canceling the card next renewal.

Flyertalk.com has forums for all cards, hotel programs, airline programs, and many more which are really useful. It has lots of activity and there are threads for different credits/perks where people report their redemptions and successes. Even people reporting on retention bonuses and what people are being offered.

Upgradedpoints.com is a good website that has lots of pages summarizing programs and how to maximize different points.

Doctorofcredit.com is good for program overviews and also posts different deals and bonuses.

The Points Guy is probably the most popular but the least useful imo. They pimp different cards and make it seem like you can fly around the world in first class and stay in suites if you just sign up for this one card if you sign up through our affiliate link.

Thanks. I churn but when I want something new I just Google who has best current perks and go that route. I should really find out how often you can apply for certain cards etc because I have something from everyone l all sitting around with $0 balances.
Captain Winky

Doctorofcredit is good for this. They have spreadsheets with current and past sign up bonuses. They also recommend if a bonus is good or if you should wait for a higher bonus.

Same with a breakdown of all the rules about applying and how many cards you can have at one time for each credit company.

From what I've read, you will get the Resy credit as long as you are enrolled, the restaurant is on Resy, and the card is used. It can be used for takeout; you just have to make sure that the restaurant's online ordering doesn't go through a third-party app like GrubHub. It appears that ordering through Toasttab works, though. I'll have to test it out.

So you don't even have to set up a reservation through resy first? I know the account is linked to your Amex so I figured you had to make a reservation first. I looked at several restaurants in Houston for Oct 29th and many had zero availability and I found that hard to believe, so if you can just walk in and get the credit that would be huge.

No you don't need a reservation

Niiiiiiice. Thank you. Not bad going to have a free family outing with this benefit and the Marine Band. It's not often you can take the family out for that kind of price.

Been researching this all weekend. My understanding is that you need to transfer your points to a partner airline, hotel, etc before downgrading.
Captain Winky

What Chase card do you currently have? In most cases, you don't have to transfer out your points. Only if you are canceling and don't have another card that has Chase points.

When you say each have your own do you mean you are both paying the full $895 or one of you is an authorized user at $195?

Not trying to call you out. I'm just finally getting into the weeds of my own CC stuff (Sapphire Reserve) to understand all the ins and outs I've left on table over the years. Consenting switching to this card but it's more or less a wash on paper after doing a side by side compare.

Been playing around with this one lately.

The free version is pretty useful but you need to pay them a few bucks if you want to search far ahead.

Feel free to use my referral bonus so I can chip away at that new Amex fee bump!

Chase Sapphire Reserve. I would be getting rid of this to go to the Amex one.

My other Chase are Marriott and United. I don't need the Marriott anymore so need to figure out something in its place.

You can get a chase freedom or whatever it's called now and transfer points but it's probably best to just use them

Thanks for posting. That Upgradedpoints.com site is helpful on showing me how to use my points the most efficient way.
