Thinking about taking the family (3yo & 10yo) to Colorado Springs for fall break in October. Any insight on where to stay, things to do or places to eat?

Early October is incredible weather, late Oct can be cold. We have had LOTS of snow on the ground for 6 of the past 7 Halloweens. It has become a tradition that Halloween is cold and snowy

For 3 and 10yo, I recommend the following...

Manitou arcade. It has gone downhill a bit but is still a bunch of fun. I talked to the old owner a few years back about buying it and it never amounted to much. They finally sold and the new guy doesn't ever seem to fix the machines.
Santa's Workshop - they will have started the Christmas stuff and it is great for young ones. It is a little person amusement park, very charming, our neighbors own it
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - boo at the zoo is great, it is a really great zoo, more of a park than a bunch of cages
Garden of the Gods - obviously do the inner loop through the rocks
Train ride through the Gorge in Canon City - it is pretty good
Cave of the Winds is pretty dang good, they also have a Halloween thing that is great.

I would not go to the top of Pikes peak as the kids will just be sick from the altitude and you only stay up there for about 30 minutes. 7 falls sucks. All the hikes around here are great.

That's a pretty good list right off the bat.

Sorry, had to run so I didn't get to finish.

Places to stay:

Broadmoor obviously. It is expensive and worth it. It is one of those places where everything will be right. I don't know what else to say about it. Everything will be right.

Garden of the Gods resort - next tier down, still pricey. Not perfect but it is quite nice. Good restaurant, good pool, amazing views of pikes peak. They have great villas.

Cheyenne Mountain resort - it is decent enough. Biden stayed there a couple times. They have an indoor pool at the aquatic center.

For a cheaper place look at Buffalo resort. It is a MTB oriented hotel in Manitou near GOG but they do entertainment and games in the central courtyard. Cool place

Places to eat:

Springs is not a great food town but with with a 3 and 10 year old who cares. They barely know the difference between the French Laundry and the McDonalds. All the chains are here. I do recommend you try a Dad's Donut at some point in the trip. They are a donut croissant hybrid that is quite incredible. If you don't stay at the Broadmoor go there one night for the desert bar place, can't remember the name. Also pretty incredible. Its fun to walk around the Broadmoor, just park at the church back behind the place and walk in the back towers. The hallway by the bowling alley has pics of the famous people who have stayed there, try to find all the presidents. There are about a dozen up there total.

Front Range BBQ in Old Colorado City isn't a bad choice. Casual and can accommodate young kids. Nice street to walk down, as well, with some interesting history (opium dens and cat houses).

I'll second the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The #2 best zoo in North America per USA Today. It is hilly though, so that may be an issue for young kids.

Not sure when the leaves will be done turning but the drive up to cripple creek is pretty this time of the year. Can do the train up there.

Garden of the Gods and red rocks is always a good option for outdoor activities if the weather is decent. Get to garden of the gods early for parking. Although usually not as much a **** show as it is in the summer.

Not sure if you're coming from TX or not but if you want some pretty solid bbq checkout chuck wagon (https://www.chuckwagon719.com) best bbq in town and some of the best in the state. There'll be a line but it moves fast. Sunday brunch at the broadmoor is a good time. Golden bee is fun decent food but fun atmosphere. Rabbit hole is a good spot but maybe not so much with the kids though. Greenline is a solid burger.

Headed there myself in mid-Oct with a 4 and 8 year old. Planning on hitting most of these recommendations.

Fun fact - the Arkansas river there was the border between the United States and the Republic of Texas.

I would highly suggest Mueller State Park, it is about 35 minutes from Colorado Springs ! Lots of great hikes and beautiful views!
