In Mexico I get about (20) bills of 100MX each, which is $5US and hand them out like candy to the bartender, waiters and concierge.

This is what I normally send to my clients about gratuities at all-inclusive resorts:

Gratuities are included in your hotel package and are not required at any time while at the hotel. I suggest that if you have received exemplary service, be sure and let someone in management know. A compliment will go a long way toward helping someone further his or her career in the hospitality industry. However, you may find that you want to provide an additional tip to someone, and thus it will be most convenient if you have a few small bills for every day of your trip. For Transfer Drivers - a small gratuity is customary as they do not work for the resort. I usually provide $2-$5 per piece of luggage, depending on the length of the drive. For Tour Guides - I usually provide $10/per hour as a starting point.

I've heard feedback from other agents who recommend tipping for everything and everyone, but I don't completely agree. I believe tipping should really be a judgment call for each client. For example, if I walk up to the bar, order a drink, and the bartender makes and serves it, I feel that's already covered in the gratuity included with an all-inclusive stay. However, if I'm in the pool and a server brings my drink directly to me, notices when I've finished, and brings another without me askingthat absolutely deserves a tip.

Of course, there are many different perspectives on this, but overall this approach has worked well for both my clients and me personally.

Lesson learned the hard way - don't take a $100 bill and expect to change it.

I now take $1 / 5 / 10 max.

I guess they're not really all inclusive

This is an area where you will get a wide range of answers -- all of them correct.

We tipped our waiter at the pool with a $20 each day (at the end of the first day and the beginning of the rest since we knew he would be working our section). We had a large group so he was probably getting $80 a day from us and he was also working other sections.

That was easier than constantly tipping for every drink.

We tipped the concierge $20 at the end of the stay and the same for housekeeping, I believe. We did not tip our wait staff much; mostly just due to oversight. Since there was no bill, we'd just wander off and forget.

I feel like one of the advantages of an AI is that you don't have to keep pulling out your wallet constantly. I didn't even carry mine; it was locked in the safe. But other people are insistent that you have to throw dollar bills around like it's a strip club.

If I were to return, I would probably tip more knowing how good the service is, but at the time I was a little caught off guard and wasn't prepared.

Some tip more, but here is what I generally recommend.

$1-$2 per round of drinks
$3-5 for breakfast
$3-$8 for lunch
$10-$20 for dinner
$5 per day for housekeeping
$1-$2 in mini fridge (this helps them refill what I want lol).
$5-$10 per person for raid port drivers, depending how far from the airport.

I know a local agent (local to Mexico) recommends more. I feel the above is a good starting point.

Yes in theory it's "all-inclusive". But many make $5-$10 per day. So I do what I can.

My approach is to tip the pool waiter/waitress a solid amount on their 2nd service and then hit them again later in the day. Usually $10 and then $10 again. I find it helpful to keeping the drinks from being empty all day. But you don't have to spend a lot to have their attention.

This is basically how I do it too. If we get a private cabana by the pool for the day, I'll give our waiter a bigger tip at the end of the day, usually $30-40, depending on how attentive they are.

Last time we were in Jamaica, we really felt our concierge went above & beyond so I tipped him $100 at the end of our 7 day stay. The guy was so excited that he hugged me. Like you said, most of these people make nothing every day.

I tip more for good service like everyone has said, over a minimum amount I would tip anyway per meal ($5ish).

I also like to drop a $20 on the pool waiter/waitress/bartender (whichever one you're dealing with the most) on day one. It definitely improves your service for the rest of the trip. These folks definitely remember who has taken care of them when the line at the pool bar is long.

I am not a huge fan of all inclusive places and I only go to them when I am not leaving the resort once I arrive. The drinks are small/weak and they are usually short staffed. However the food is usually really good. Being generous with the tip gets you better service and bigger/stronger/quicker drinks.

We had nice stays in all-inclusives in Costa Rica and Dominican Republic. Our experience was different regarding drinks and staffing level. We were quite satisfied and didn't have to "over tip" for food drinks and service. The food was very good in both resorts.

You do not want to tip at Sandals. Tipping can get them fired. Now I'm gonna say if you find somebody who is absolutely amazing and you think you can without them getting caught, but if anybody sees it, it will be reported. We tipped our scuba diver insructor many years ago $100 at the end of the week, but we literally were with him like five days in a row getting certified to screaming be dive.

You can tip your driver from the airport, and you can tip people if you get like spa appointments, etc.

Edited to add, if you are in a butler level suite then yes it is expected for you to tip your Butler at the end of your stay.
