Heading to LT this week for the first time ever

Had some friends that just got back and mentioned bears everywhere, even had an encounter while jogging

So I jump on the interwebz and holy cow! Sounds like they have a real problem.
1400 encounters last year alone with people, bears breaking into houses and cars on the regular and even killed 1 lady in her home

Bears on the beaches, in town, on hiking trails etc. completely unafraid of humans

Sounds like from the articles I read that Fish & Wildlife are hamstrung by all the liberal policies protecting the bears from even relocation

Has anyone had a bad experience there with the bears?

Years ago we were staying in Incline Village and a church there was doing a peanut butter drive and a bear broke in and ate like 100 jars of peanut butter one night.

No. Tahoe is great. Don't let some bullcrap get you down. Go, don't be an idiot, go home, post a trip report.

Lol, not a problem.

Yes, don't leave food around. Including in your car. You might see one. Probably not, they chill during the day and scavenge trash cans and cars at night. They will full gas try to get into your car if you leave food in there. But they're skidish as hell.

We hike and bike all over Tahoe. Never had a problem.

As long as you're not on your period, you'll be fine. Bears can smell the menstruation.

Spent 5 days in Tahoe in late September and saw no bears.

They are pretty shy, but learn what to do if you encounter either black or brown bears (both live in that area). I've used what I learned on 3 different occasions at or near our house in the Poconos in the past few years, so it comes in handy to know what to do in areas where you may have an encounter.

There are brown colored black bears there, but there are no Brown (grizzly) bears in tahoe.

Thanks for the correction. Apparently cinnamon colored black bears are fairly common there and I had misunderstood the difference.

I heard that story. I don't think it was at Incline though. That was up in Jellystone.

Thanks for not educating the rest of us so we all get to die.
