Booked AA round trip from DFW to Europe. The return was BA Prague to London, then AA back across the pond.

Checked into BA flight this morning as soon as available. Couldn't get mobile pass because their software is dog ***** App leads to website, website leads to app, etc.

No worries. PDF saved to phone and I can always print.

Those mother ****ers still haven't told us they cancelled the flight. We randomly saw it on their site while checking gate info. Call American and they confirm "yeah looks like BA cancelled it. We can get you home a day later but you still have to take a BA flight to LHR."

Still no text, emails, or app updates from BA.

Check out EU regulation 261, you probably can receive compensation.

Curious about the rest of the itinerary.

Have a similar trip planned later this month on AA / BA.

Also found it interesting that it was cheaper to book through AA codeshare then directly through BA

Great. I just backed DFW to MXP, and the return leg involves a BA flight to LHR. I've been trying to see if I can select my seat, but when I enter the reservation number, BA says they have no record of my booking.

Yeah, that happens a lot.

I've seen it most often with Qantas / AA flying between LAX - SYD.
Especially if you're redeeming points.

It might be easier to get the Qantas flight you want by booking it on AA points sometimes. Doesn't make any logical sense but I believe the airlines have some sort of agreements like this to buy at certain price points.

Another one that will do your head in is booking on Singapore Airlines via a travel agent versus on their web site. Singapore also offers different fares depending on which country you book from and in what currency you pay.

I don't like them because I was on one of their flights to London and asked for a whiskey and coke. They gave me scotch mixed with coke.

Circling back to this. Doesn't appear to be British Airways but American that was the f'er upper.

We ended up paying a small fortune to fly United home. It got us home the same day our AA flight would have. A few hours earlier with an extra stop.

AA still hasn't given us credit. They rebooked us on a flight a full day later than our original itinerary. They said we could cancel for a full refund as long as we did so before that flight takes off. We did. They didn't and only show a credit for the Prague>LHR leg.

To make matters worse - we found out somewhere over the atlantic that the 1st leg was NEVER cancelled. Despite multiple AA exec platinum operators tellings us it was therefore our LHF>DFW leg would be cancelled as well unless we booked a flight via one of their partners that got us to LHR in time to catch the original LHF>DFW. None were available, so basically stick with us and get home a day later, or cancel for a refund/credit.

Waiting for a call back from AA to settle it.

Requesting refund/credit for the return (so far only shows a credit for prague>HLR), give us the miles/loyalty points we would have earned on the return - that would mave made us both platinum pro and impacts every flight have the rest of the year, plus a credit for the fare difference b/w the refund and what we paid on united to get us home. i.e. the flight home was $5K, we paid United $10K, give us our $5K unused flight credit plus the difference w/the united flight, an additional $5K.

The last one is a long shot, but AA's complete incompetence put us in this position. Not weather, strike, broken plane, etc. Sheer incompetence. If they don't do the last, hopefully the travel insurance we purchased in advance will help make it whole.

2 questions:

1 - Did you try cancelling the flight on the AA App?

At least with United, I've found that many times the App is much faster and gives you more options than you get on the phone. Even when I was a 1-K.

2 - How important was getting home on a particular day that you were willing to spend $10k out of pocket to do it?

I ask because when I used to fly to Australia a lot, a flight delay was always a 24 hour setback and I had it happen a few times.

I'm just trying to imagine the scenario where an extra 24 hours of child care, pet boarding, airport parking, missing a day of work, etc. was worth $10k to you.

You need to go to your booking on AA website. There should be a BA record locator number in your booking. You need that not the AA record locator to pick sests on the BA leg

I just downloaded BA"s app for that reason.

Technically they fulfilled your order lol.

Europeans asking for whisky probably mean scotch 9.9 times out of 10. You would probably have been more successful if you asked for bourbon (if that's what you wanted), if they had it on the plane.

There should have been a BA locator, but it just wasn't there. I ended up calling BA customer service and they had to hunt it down, but it's done.

Last time I flew BA was at least 15 yrs ago. Return flight back to the US in economy plus. I was the only person in the entire section. Luckily so because the tvs didn't work in the economy section the entire flight. People were pissed.

1. No - due to the timing and cost we assumed it would be easier to call the exec platinum help desk. We also had companions booked separately (but linked) and thought it would be more likely to get both couples on the same flights via phone.

2. After talking to support, options were limited. Anything goes wrong and its another day. We paid for more $$ flights due to comfort/back issues. If we were willing to fly middle in economy it opened more avenues. The outrageous 1-way was easier to swallow knowning we were getting a large refund for the AA return flight. We both had work reasons to get back. We always build cushion into our return so that we can recover and to give us space for the unexpected, but the option provided by AA was eating up 100% of that cushion and still required everything to go off w/out a hitch. Neither of us would get in trouble with work but it would still create a lot of stress due to commitments.

Thanks for answering.

I assume the other couple also ponied up $10K - wow. I think y'all are out of my tax bracket. LOL

Most of my 24 hour delays had enough buffer where it was never a problem except for 1 time coming out of BWI heading to Sydney. We had been up to Virginia to see our daughter at VMI.

A lightning storm in the Baltimore area introduced a couple hour delay which caused us to miss our connecting Qantas flight at DFW back to Sydney. At that time of night, there was no way to re-route so they put us on the same nonstop flight the following night from DFW-SYD.

I got back to Sydney with about 3-4 hours available to go home, re-pack and return to the airport to catch my flight to Bangkok for a week long work trip which included Japan and South Korea. It was definitely one of those close calls where they were paging me over the PA as the last passenger they were waiting for.

If I had missed that SYD-BKK flight, it would have upset my whole itinerary for the week not to mention the re-connection face time with some of my South Asia colleagues that I needed during a critical phase of a merger. Damn BWI lightning.
