I'm looking at a Canadian cruise. Many seem to embark or disembark at Quebec City. My question is, how hard is it to get to Quebec City? I assume you would fly in or out of Montreal and get a shuttle to/from Quebec City? Any one that could give me some info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can just fly into Quebec City. We went from DFW a few years ago and you fly through Montreal or Toronto. Get there a few days early because Quebec City is worth visiting.

Yep, I flew to Quebec through Montreal last year. From IAH, the only option was Air Canada (and they are expensive). There were plenty of flight options between Montreal and Quebec; not so many between IAH and Montreal. Coming back, I rented a car and made my way to Montreal. It's a decent enough drive that I would take the connecting flight over a shuttle.

Quebec is a great little city. I enjoyed it a lot more than Montreal. You do not need a car.

As a travel advisor cruising is one of my specialties. What cruise line are you wanting to sail? My contact info is in my bio if you would like to chat. There is a lot to coordinate with cruises pre and post.

My recommendation…fly to Montreal then take Canada Rail (Business Class) to Quebec City. We did that last year and it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Edit...if one of your stops is Halifax I recommend you visit Fairview Lawn Cemetery. 100 Titanic victims are buried there, including Jack Dawson. You can combine that with a visit to Peggy's Cove, which is something you really can't describe...you just have to see it. Eastern Canada is unique and beautiful.

United and American fly into Quebec City with layovers in Chicago, Newark or Philly. Air Canada is an option too but it wouldn't be my first choice with United & American having flights.

Air Canada goes direct to Montreal from Houston.

The rail idea is a good one as well, even if you only do it 1 direction.

Just be careful with the United and American flights out of IAH. When I was searching last year, I pretty much felt like Air Canada was the only option because the United/American connections were so bad. Either super short (less than 50 min) or extended layover times (in some cases, overnight). And they weren't any cheaper. The "cheap flights" (still $699-$700 vs the $900 I paid) required 2 stops.

If you can get to Montreal, you'll have many more options (multiple flights, train, and car) for getting to Quebec City if for some reason your flight is delayed.

Thanks. And it may completely vary on dates, as the ones I saw were 90-120 minutes layover. But always a good point.

Not to change the subject, but this is my biggest gripe about IAH. The "competition" to the "primary carrier" to a destination (usually United, but in this case, Air Canada), is often so BAD that it's not even a viable option for most travelers. And often these terrible options cost just as much. It's just about impossible to do any sort of competitive price comparison, except to maybe a few select destinations (like NYC where there are 3 different airports to choose from).

The exception was when Southwest was flying out of IAH - they offered some great deals on few flights they had and put pressure on the other carriers, but that's gone now.
