As a heads-up, saw this on the evening news yesterday. Going to Port A in a couple of weeks and hearing from locals that the 10-year stretch of clean beaches may be coming to an end.

The sargassum is beneficial. It provides vital habitat for juvenile fish, crabs and shrimp. Sea turtles also eat it. Plus, if left alone it aids in preventing beach erosion. Sorry it smells and looks "unsightly." It is a necessary part of the ecosystem.

There is a reason why an area in the western Atlantic was called the Sargasso Sea by early seafarers.

Flew over the gulf the other day. Giant mats of it, like acres of it, floating on the surface.
