We leave Sunday to drive to Moab. I have three options to get there. Which is the best drive
1 550 through New Mexico , and then the corner of Colorado to 191 in Utah
2 I40 to Gallup and up 191 through Nevada to Utah
3 I40 to Gallup and then 491 to Cortez to 191 to Moab?
They all are 6-6.5 hours. Which is the prettiest and least annoying ?

How much time is added to add Monument Valley to the trip? That would be my choice if it made sense time wise.

See if you can find the poster Caladan

He seems to be an expert on the area and I think may live in that part of the world

Driving to Moab from ABQ, we added a little more time and went through Monument Valley as BSD suggested.

My parents lived in Moab when I was at A&M. My 'ol lady lived in Albuquerque, so we would make the drive all the time during Christmas break and summer break. Take 550/64 through New Mexico, pick up 491 in Shiprock and take that through Cortez to Monticello. Pick up 191 in Monticello and take that all the way into Moab. The last portion of 191 that follows the Colorado River through the canyon into Moab is gorgeous. You'll love it.

We got here yesterday and that's the route we took. 550 was a slog, but the rest was great

You're correct. That stretch through NM is pretty unremarkable. Hope you're enjoying Moab. I try to get back each year and always enjoy my time there.
