We are going to St John, USVI for the first time in a couple weeks. Any must do/see restaurants, bars or hidden gems?

The entire island is a hidden gem. Go to every beach on the island. They are all great. If there long enough take a day trip over to the Soggy Dollar bar or Foxy's.

We have a Jeep rented so we will definitely be beach hopping. We also have a private boat already booked to take us to Jost Van Dyke one day to bar/beach hop.

Then you are ahead of the game.

On the other side of the island from Cruz Bay, Coral Bay I believe, is a good place to eat burgers etc.
Crazy Legs or Skinny Legs.

Don't spend any time on St. Thomas other than getting from airport to ferry and back.

Carib beer is great, as is the rum, when drinking them on beautiful beaches!

Lime out in Coral Bay is a floating taco bar, excellent food and cool experience. Went last summer and was my family's favorite vacation. Rented a boat as well and was fantastic. Maho and hawksnest are 2 of our favorite beaches.

If I had to pick one favorite restaurant it would be Morgan's Mango.

Carib beer is only good if you drink it on the beach.

St. John brewery has really good beer and food.

We like to eat late lunch at the brewery then get six pack to go and consume it at one of the many awesome beaches while watching the sun go down.

Most of the time the beaches are deserted after 4 so don't worry if you can't get parking spot at the one you want in the morning.

The roads are bit beat up and steep but you get used to it quickly.

Yes, parking can be tough at the more popular beaches from 9 am - 2pm. We like to go early and stay until lunch time to eat fish tacos and have pain killers at Maho, Trunk, Honeymoon or Cinnamon Bay beach bars and then head in for a nap from 2-5 pm. And then go to Windmill Bar for more painkillers and the best sunset on the island. Lots of great restaurants in Cruz Bay, but should get reservations to make sure you can get a table. The parking in Cruz Bay is tough so I would just pay $20 to the guys in the lot across from the beachfront restaurants to save time and aggravation since you are on vacation. The Beach Bar is a great place to spend an hour relaxing before dinner…great painkillers and nachos. And for the nicest restaurant on the island get a reservation at ZoZo's…it's very pricey but it's a great sunset view and memorable experience.

It's been 20 years since I've been so I don't have much to add re: restaurants and stuff but I'll second some of what's been mentioned above.

1) St. Thomas is a dump. Stay away. Very disappointing.
2) Make damn sure you take your passport and visit the BVI's. Enjoyed them much more than the USVI's.
3) St. John is simply gorgeous.
4) Enjoy some Painkillers with that Caribbean rum. They are delicious and aptly named.
5) Snorkel. Or dive if you know how. The water is ridiculously clear and the sea life is beautiful.
6) Have a blast!

In the BVI the beautiful girls are more apt to go topless.

One of our favorites.

Go to Secret Harbor in St John's - the locals will know how to get you there. Thank me later.

Our Market Smoothies sells a fantastic painkiller and planters punch by the gallon. We start and end each trip with Skinny's. Leave the beaches cleaner than you found them and don't play loud ass music. Have a good time and explore.

Extra Virgin Bistro has the best food and drinks I've had on the island. I also second the recommendation for Lime Out in Coral Bay. Great tacos and craft cocktails with floating bar booths for seating. Salt + Lime Express runs a shuttle service to Lime Out but you have to reserve it ahead of time. We book an earlier time because it can get super busy later.

Mermaids Chair in Hawksnest Bay is pretty neat. It's a bit of a hike if you are walking but you can also hit it on your charter to White Bay/Soggy Dollar (that's what we did). If you want a break from beaches, Ram Head Trail is pretty fun. On a clear day, you can see St. Croix from the peak. If you do choose to do it, wear decent hiking shoes or sandals (not flip flops) and take plenty of water. By mid-day, it gets pretty toasty.
