Not sure what the best forum for this post is, but my wife and I are planning on making it back to College Station for a game this fall and we're trying to figure out where to stay. We've stayed in hotels and AirBnBs in College Station before and stayed in Houston one time, but this time we're thinking of staying somewhere close enough to drive to the game but also get to explore a bit on Friday and Sunday. Does anyone have a recommendation for a more off-the-beaten-path town or area we should look into? Preferably within an hour or so drive of College Station and somewhere with decent restaurant, coffee shop, etc. to just have a relaxing day?

Downtown Navasota is a great little downtown. PA Smith hotel is a beautiful boutique hotel right downtown. Several great restaurants on the same street. Half hour to Kyle. If you want to AirBNB, there are plenty in the area.

We had a great lunch not long ago at Red Board Tavern in Navasota.

Brenham is another good choice, and has a more built up downtown, with restaurants, several wine bars, a nearby brewery, shopping, etc. 96 West is a good choice for a meal, along with Las Americas and 30 North Gastropub (more casual).
