Anyone flown with them before? Heading to Calgary for the Stampede and their prices are crazy low compared to United. Just want to make sure they aren't a flying school bus like Spirit.

Have used them multiple times to YYC and am watching prices for December. They are always way cheaper than United. I would say they are closest to Southwest, when it comes to planes and service.

They are fine. You do have to pay to choose a seat, but their seat fees are on the order of $10-$20 each (assuming you don't want exit row). But even exit row isn't too expensive.

It's not at all like Spirit.

They do now occupy the crappy gates in the "basement" of terminal A at IAH (where Southwest was).

Couple of tips: 1) you can book through Delta (if you are worried about cancelling and having a credit on WestJet that you can't use); you will still have to go to the WestJet site to pick and pay for seats; 2) if you purchase on the WestJet site, often two one way tickets are cheaper than the round trip.

Also, if you book with Delta and for some reason your WestJet flight is cancelled, that leaves you more options for rebooking (that happened to us on one trip). We opted for a flight with a stop rather than changing our dates.

flew with them to Calgary. Reminded me of Southwest. zero problems and would gladly fly with them again.

I'm flying with them for the first time next month for the same reason. It was literally about half the price of United direct to Calgary. It was too good to pass up.

One of my neighbors used to work for them and she's confirmed the description above, even down to comparing them with Southwest.

The tip I didn't get was booking through Delta. That's good to know.

The Canadians I work with talk like they prefer WestJet over Air Canada. I haven't dug into the details but these are the same people that seem amazed that I get free upgrades on AA and that there is such a thing as wifi on planes in 2025, so who knows.

Spouse travels to Calgary often from Houston and uses them. No complaints from him.

I've also used them to go up to Calgary for Stampede or hiking trips. Never had issues.

Also flown Westjet to Calgary multiple times. I actually prefer flying out of Terminal A lately since there tends to be more available garage parking (and less traffic) than the United terminals.

Just booked our tickets. Did it though Delta, and two one-one way tickets were cheaper on both WestJet and Delta. Saved about $120 in total for 2 travelers.

My company is co-headquartered in Houston and Ontario, we also have a shop just north of Calgary.

I'm flying United tomorrow, but use West Jet as well (once in the interior they serve cities that United and even Air Canada do not).

As others have said, they're cheaper, and the service is very good. They run a dual class cabin (unlike SW) but overall they are what SouthWest USED to be.

Only downside if you're flying out of Houston, is they use the Feral Terminal A. If you're a regular Delta flier, then you'll earn your Sky Miles points through Delta.

Thanks for everyone's information. Booked WestJet even with premium seating, still way cheaper than United plus checked bags are free.
