Wanted to start a thread about people's bucket list places and things to do with a slight twist

Person gives a state and their bucket list item from that state and then selects the next state for someone to give their ideas as well

It can be low cost or high end if you so choose and if it grows maybe we give low budget mid budget and high end options as well

We can overlap and repeat states if people want to add to something in a state that is not what someone else said

I will start

Florida

Seaplane to Dry Tortugas NP for snokeling and other activities followed by night on Key West

Next state up

North Carolina

Any of the great distilleries, but I'll say Maker's Mark had the best tour. And toss in the Corvette plant and museum in Bowling Green, KY, too, for good measure.

Tell me about something I might have missed in COLORADO.

  • Mormon Church in downtown SLC is a must see.
  • Ski slopes are close to town east of SLC.
  • Provo isn't too bad and obviously that's where BYU is. Also went to a great rental gun range there.
  • North in Brigham City, I strongly recommend the Maddox Family Ranch House for Steak (I think I had Bison there). Also, it's a 50 mile drive to nowhere from Brigham City to Promontory Point. Save yourself the trip.
  • Richfield has some sort of ATV jamboree there and of course Moab is famous.
If you really want to get entertained, you can watch the YouTube channel for Matt's Off Road Recovery and the Yellow Banana. Or Trail Mater.

Race, almost literally, across the Great Salt Lake to Wendover, NV for a quick gamble, check out the old base where the B29 Atomic Bombers trained, and the Bonneville Salt Flats where speed week happens and the Donner Party got stuck long enough to put them in the pass at the wrong time.

Wish I still had the truck.

Yellowstone is obvious one here, so I'll be more specific. Fly fishing the Lamar River and surrounding drainages (Soda Butte and Slough Creek) in the NE corner of the park, just inside Wyoming from the aforementioned spectacular Beartooth Highway in Montana.

Arkansas

I've only been to southern Arkansas, so the more beautiful NW portion of the state is firmly on my to do list. To begin, I'd like to explore Buffalo National River. It's one of the few undammed rivers in the US and the first National River established in the NPS.

Tell me about
Iowa!

Iowa

Ooooh, not sure anything in Iowa is worthy of "bucket list." But if you go to Sioux City you can cross over 3 states in just a few minutes: Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota.

The Woodville County Fair is a classic, midwestern fair. The tractor pull is fun to watch.

Mississippi

I had an aunt and uncle that had a cabin on Torch Lake. I went waterskiing there when I was 13, using water skis borrowed from a cousin that used to perform in the Busch Gardens water ski shows. Beautiful place.

Lake Ouachita is beautiful and if you like rocks, got to Coleman quartz mine and pay to go find your own crystals.

Let's try to get back to where we add a state. I am hoping this thread goes for a while and we hit all the states and mutiple times with new bucket list items to consider

Last State was Vermont
and to see the fall colors change which FYI is usually in early to mid October

New State is Pennsylvania
Mathguy64
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Pennsylvania

The Gettysburg National Battleground. Seeing the Peach Orchard, and the high ground the Northern Army held on Cemetery Ridge you are just in awe of the bravery of the Confederate soldiers.

Next state: Louisiana

Next state: Louisiana
Surprisingly, New Orleans has lots to do for a family with small children. Audubon Zoo and Aquarium are top notch.

For the adults, Sunday Brunch at Court of Two Sisters. Had our 40th anniversary dinner at Muriel's on Jackson Square

Next State: ALASKA
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Next State: ALASKA
Note for Louisiana: Nottaway Plantation burned to the ground Thursday. One of the last antebellum plantations.

Alaska

Ok. Bucket list stuff right? The amount of stuff you can see and do in Alaska is off the charts. Walking on glaciers. Seeing unique wildlife. Tons of outdoorsman opportunities from fly fishing trout or salmon to halibut or rockfish. Hunting. But bucket list?

Going to Brooks Lodge to see the bears at the Falls. Not just because it's so unique but for how difficult it is to win the lottery to go there.

Seeing Denali from Wonder Lake. Bucket list because it happens so infrequently and it's so damn hard to get there to see it.

Next state: MAINE

Maine:

Rent a bike and ride the carriage paths in Acadia National Park to the places the crowds don't go, like the top of Day Mountain at far south end of the park.

Next: Washington (state)

I'm gonna add a couple because I wasn't fast enough to be the first to respond.

Mississippi - I grew up on the Gulf Coast, and admittedly, this was not easy even for me. Cruisin' the Coast is a good one. My pick is the birthplace of Jim Henson in Leland, MS. Small little museum, but it's got a few original Muppet puppets. Def a bucket list item for any Muppet fan.

Alaska - Take the train to Seward and stay a few nights stay at Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge. It's a small, off the grid, lodge on a private island. All inclusive. Stunning views of Halibut Cove, and probably the most peaceful place I've ever stayed.

https://www.alaskacollection.com/lodging/kenai-fjords-wilderness-lodge/

Maine - White water rafting on the Penobscot or Kennebec River.

Florida - a Launch at Kennedy Space Center (something I still have yet to see, despite multiple efforts) followed by a kayak (in a clear boat) with phospholuminescent plankton.

A few pics from Alaska.
