I've got a high school senior that we're thinking about taking on a trip this summer before he starts college. He likes to fish so I've done some research on taking him off shore and inshore fishing out of Venice, LA. He would be good with this but he also said it would be cool to go to an island as well.

I know what my fishing trips cost but it's been a few years since my wife and I have taken an island trip. Not sure what that looks like now days. I can do a 3 day fishing trip for $5K to $6K. Is it possible to take a family of 4 to a resort somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico for say $6K to $8K?

If so, any suggestions on locations or properties?

100% depends on the number of nights you would like to be at the resort. Yes this is doable and realistic. If you are not working with a travel advisor my contact info is in my bio. Here are some pics of resorts that teens and early 20s enjoy along with parents.

Yes, that's definitely doable for a family of 4 to a resort in the Caribbean or Mexico.
If you're interested in fishing I would highly recommend looking into Los Cabos area.

Feel free to reach out for some great recommendations!

How about Belize? San Pedro is a fun town and there is in shore fishing as well as deep sea fishing (just half mile off the beach). Plus you can snorkel the reef and swim with nurse sharks. We stayed at Ramon's and thought it was a good spot. They cooked our fish for us at the restaurant there. Lots of friends stay at Plantation House, but it may be pricier.

we loved this trip! They take you fishing for barracuda and also for lobster
it's about the same price as a resort plus the tour costs to go out fishing - all foox/excursions included

we found this place thanks to TexAgs and went 3 years ago

Looked interesting. How was the food, etc.?

Food was best part of it!

Plus, we speared a lionfish and they cooked it up that night! They also cooked our barracuda that we caught which was so good

Also, if you go lobster hunting before the last day, they will give you those for dinner as well - we drove down about 8 feet and speared them over and over… Got about 15! Lobster and Lion fish too

Carlos is The Man out there

Everything is personal and the island is small.

This looks great for a 40th. What is the daily rate?

Price is on their website, but when we went, it was at the end of the season and they negotiated down a little bit to match what I was going to get on Ambergris Caye

Thanks for the replies everyone. We were looking at our calendar and unfortunately, it doesn't appear we're going to have an open week to make a trip work this summer. May try and circle back around to a trip this winter when he is between semesters at college.

Very doable. You're cheapest option is Mexico. Without a doubt. But you can also be in budget with mainland caribbean locatiikns (i.e. Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua). The islands destinations (Jamaica and Eastern Caribbean will definitely start to challenge the budget (and less ideal for fishing).
