Definitely hangout in Marienplatz - Hofbrau Haus, climb to the top of St Peter's, watch the glockenspiel. Take a day trip to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle.

Good suggestions. Also be sure to watch the surfing in the park for a while.

we like Hotel an der Oper (Falkenturm Strasse). The Pussers Rum bar across the street is quite fun. If you want to go further afield go to the brewery at Andechs. Gorreshof on Gorrestrasse for real Bavarian foods (get the apple rings for desert). The Fasanerie (Pheasantry - were Ludwig raised the birds he shot) is good day time biergarten (in conjunction with a castle visit). Self service beer garden in the Englisher Garden is a good way to experience the gardens. Hofbraukeller (Innere Wiener Strasse 19) is a good bier garten on the bank of the River Isar.

Here is a comprehensive list of Beer Gardens https://www.munichbeergardens.com/Main_Page

We stayed at the Platzl Hotel. No complaints. Great location, good breakfast, small bar for a night cap.

A good day around the Platzl Hotel:
AM: Hefenweisen at Marienplatz
Noon: Brat and a Lager at Viktualienmarkt
PM: Dunkel at the Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm

Visit Dachau for sure.
Fussen and a hike around Neuschwanstein Castle makes a great day trip if you have a car.

Second the Platzl Hotel. Perfect location near Marienplatz & Hofbrauhaus House. The Haxen Grill down the street is a great spot for roasted pork knuckles.

A lot of great recommendations already. If you get time take the Bus or train to Freising and visit the Weihenstephan brewery. It's the oldest brewery in the world. They make the the best Hef in the world. Freising is a neat town as well.

If you go to the castle, they apparently won't tell you that the Nazis stashed stolen art there during the war.

The brown house museum is pretty great also. Very moving. Self guided tour with lots of reading but goes through how the nazi party came to power and throughout "reconstruction" of Germany if you will.

Wife and I went five years ago. Very moving experience, had a tour guide who made us feel we went back in that time.

Their Doppelbock Dunkel is still one of my favorite beers on this planet.
