GF and I are headed to Finland on Wednesday. Both of us have been busy so we have not planned too well. We only have one dinner planned and we have a day trip tour to Estonia. Any recommendations not on the "Top 10 must do's when in Helsinki" lists that pop up on google? We are staying at the St. George. We have another four nights in Ivalo but I think she has planned that better since the point of the trip is to see the northern lights.

We were in Helsinki for part of a day on a Baltic cruise a few years ago.

I believe we went to the nearby historic city of Poorvoo. I think they are famous for Macaroons or some similar cookie/desert. Like it was invented there. We also spent some time in downtown Helsinki. Honestly it was my least favorite stop on our Baltic cruise.

If you are going to Tallin Estonia, there is a Texas Themed cantina there in the old town that I learned about on Texags. We stopped in there. The food was interesting.

I just ambled around most of the time, the central area is very walkable. Great hotel choice too, the St. George is excellent.

Went to Helsinki for a week for work in the fall of 2023 and stayed at the Hotel U14. Pretty close to the St George per google maps. 4 nights in Helsinki feels like a lot but as I was there for work I can't really say. Make sure you bring a bathing suit and book time at a sauna!

Couple of good restaurants worth checking out:

Cafe Engle - I actually ate a big American style breakfast there after landing the first day and it was excellent. My boss had salmon soup which she said was really good.

Restaurant Farouge - this is a Lebanese place. Really good, went there twice.

The Cock - had a good steak here.

Boon Nam - Thai place with a Michelin star. This was also excellent. I think it's actually in the St. George.

Thanks for the recs. We popped over for a day to Tallinn as well which was very cool. We ate at The Palace which as a two star and might be their nicest restaurant. Pretty sure we were surrounded by Russian gangsters.

Helsinki

Lapland

Estonia

And some super spicy mustard at The Beer House.
