So gone are the days of just getting billed the actual toll you drove through, and now it seems companies (in this case, Hertz) either force you to pay their stupid $14.99/day fee for unlimited tolls, or you drive through and then pay penalties and fees much higher.

Wifey is gonna be only on E-470 twice this weekend in Colorado and the actual tolls are way less than the daily fee, and toll road is cashless.

Pretty much screwed or is there a way around paying for the daily fee even if it's not needed?

Does she need to go someplace off E-470, or could she get by with C-470, I-25, I-225 and Peña Blvd?

I know what you mean though about the tolls.

I rented a car in Dallas last year and wound up getting hit with $40+ worth of tolls over a two day period. Toll booths where you can pay cash don't exist anymore. I usually rent with National and they just tell you to drive the toll roads and they'll bill you later.

She's heading to Cheyenne so probably but not the quickest way.

I know in Illinois you have a 7 day grace period where you can go online and just enter the plate number, even if it's not your car, and pay tolls you drove through.

Shows how South/West centric my Denver thinking is LOL.

I did take the north part of E470 about 2 years ago when I had to go to Boulder. I also took I-270 to US36 as well.

Looks like it will add about 12 miles to the trip versus jumping right on E470 to head north to I-25 but if tolls are a concern, I'd recommend just taking Peña Boulevard to I-70 West to I-270 West to I-25 North.

One other thing that might just be my perception but on that North East side of Denver, historically, there have been a number of fake cops preying on ladies driving by themselves so make sure your wife is on the lookout.

I've driven E-470 with Avis many times and did not have to pay a daily rate. Avis charged the toll + some small fee per booth. Wasn't anything crazy and was based on use.

I rent with Hertz quite a bit and have never been required to buy a pre-paid toll package. I am just charged based on use.

I rent with Hertz quite a bit and have never paid for unlimited tolls. My experience is similar to the post above. There may be a small surcharge, but it is not worth worrying about.

Seems to be a myriad of different experiences on flyertalk and reddit that people have had some exorbitant fees and surcharges for doing that with Hertz. Like $9.99 per booth driven through on top of cost of the toll, etc

In Texas, whenever I have used a rental car, I would just log into my EZ Tag account and add the license plate of the rental car, and it would bill my account. I haven't done it in a while, so I don't know if things have changed. I have no idea if you can do something similar in Colorado.

assuming from DEN, take pena to tower north, then west on 120th, then north on sable, then west on 160th back to 25.

Or, if it's a weekday evening, it may even be quicker to go pena/tower/ 120th, I76, north on 49th/kersey rd, through greeley then 85 up to cheyenne.

I25 northbound is horrendous for evening commutes. between frederick/firestone and fort collins, pretty much bumper to bumpber

yes you can do this with express toll, but I'm guessing this person doesn't live here so probably doesn't have an account.

In Florida there's usually a $20ish convenience fee added.

Guess I am lucky as it has not been charged to me yet. And I was in FL in February.

Sure. And in Jersey you can't pump your own gas.

It's a state work program that doubles as a toll plaza.

Hertz charges a daily toll fee. Doesn't matter if you use it every day or not. So you'll pay the daily, the actual tolls, then some other bs fees. Costs me about $40 every time I go to Ft. Collins for like a 3 day trip. And I only use the toll from the airport to Ft. Collins and back.

Just got an enterprise rental through my car insurance. They charge the tolls directly to you. But they charge a $5 (I think) convenience fee per day. They only charge this on days you use tolls, regardless of how many tolls.
