We'll be going through Ruidoso on a Saturday in a few weeks. We'll be getting there early in the afternoon so we won't really be doing anything while we're there other than letting the wife go to the shops and just looking around. Eat dinner and hit the hotel.

It's been a long time since I've been there. What's a good place for dinner that night and breakfast in the morning? Friends have recommended Rancher's Steakhouse.

Our last experience with Ranchers was equivalent to Golden Corral. Ate the veggies and left. The Texas Club is consistently good food.

Go to Ranchers but make a reservation for one of the 2-tops in the bar so that Ed takes care of you. You'll get much better service than from a random waiter/waitress and he will have your back if the food is off. I personally prefer Rancher's over Texas Club but I'm probably in the minority.

Hall of Flame burgers are really good. We ate there multiple times my last visit.

Are there kids or just a couples trip?

If so, let the wife walk the shops and take them to Funtrackers for putt putt or go carts so they can get some energy out.

Otherwise, getting a day fishing license and seeing which lake was stocked that week is another good bet.

If you are looking for pizza, Cafe Rio has excellent pizza.

Do you call the town, Rooeydohsoh? or Reeyadohsah?

Get pizzas to go at Cafe Rio and walk over to eat them at Lost Hiker Brewery.

I drove over one day from Cloudcroft and that's what we did. Survived the day, but couldn't wait to get back to Cloudcroft. Felt the same way about Red River and Taos, but at least Taos has Wheeler Peak. And when I was in Leadville, I didn't even waste time to go to Breckenridge. I'm a value-centered outdoorsman.

Didn't get my Whitney permit. Considering the Cloudcroft 53K instead.

Wound up eating at Tina's yesterday after being rejected at Rancher's. They said reservations only. But Tina's was good. I had a CFS, wife had green chili alfredo pasta w/ chicken.

Had kind of wanted Cafe Rio but they were very busy.

Went to Log Cabin this morning for breakfast before we left. Also good.

Since this thread is back near the top currently, I'll update this. Grill Caliente recently reopened under new ownership. Haven't been back yet but heard menu and quality is pretty much the same as it was.

Glad to hear Log Cabin is still good.

Is Lincoln County Grill still a good place to eat?
