We're flying out Saturday on an international flight via air Canada, I realized one letter in my kid's first name is wrong. The airline is wanting me to cancel and rebook for an $1100 price difference. I've also read we can just show up the morning of and the gate agent can fix it. Anybody try that in the past

We had this situation on our trip to Italy last May. My daughter's name starts with a K but the ticket had a C for the first letter. We made it all the way to boarding and somehow the ticket agent noticed it. They pulled us aside and and told us we might not be able to board. They made calls for about 10 minutes and held the plane briefly. The ticket agent wasn't very cordial or happy. She said she didn't want to put us on the plane and would need to get it worked out and then get on another flight. Our first flight was a stopover in NYC. The gate agent finally said I don't want to do this, but I'm letting ya'll get on and clear this up in NYC since the airline didn't have any other flights to NYC that morning or early afternoon. We were lucky. I would for sure try to get it worked out before. When we got to NYC we went to the airline for our next flight and it took a few minutes to get the name corrected and then we were on to our next flight. It was pretty stressful. Try to get it worked out with your booking airline asap. If you used a third party booking agent, get with them asap.

I booked a ticket for flights to Spain recently and noted that I had fat fingered my Name. I called the airline and they definitely said the ticket needed to be reissued in the correct spelling.

how bad is it? The gate or secuirty poeple mihgt not eevn notcie.

I would definitely recommend getting there early for that and pray they let you do it in the states before you leave. In 2021 I booked Air Canada through a 3rd party sight, IAH -> Toronto -> Athens, and didn't notice the sight auto populated my wife's maiden name in. Well long story short the people at IAH said it was fine b/c she had both her new and old passports and driver IDs to show it was her. Welp got to Toronto and they wouldn't let her on the plane. Had to buy a brand new ticket to Athens. I know it was my own fault but I formed a strong dislike for the people of Toronto that day lol.

Every customer service rep has different rules. I wouldn't wait until 72 hours before. Call back in a couple days and ask the same question. Best of luck

Never mind, saw this is international.

This is a crappy situation and I hope it can be easily changed (and at no cost to you!).

But how is this name changing problem only with airlines? Why does it have to be this difficult? I would love someone to give me a good answer on this!
