I'm going to Wimbledon this summer, and I am going to spend a few days in and around London prior to that. As long as I am crossing The Pond, I want to add something else to my trip. Barcelona was recommended to me, and I have not been there. I know there were significant issues last year, including locals protesting tourists. Would the crowds be really bad around that time, or would getting out of Spain by the end of June be OK?

Stay away from the news. Friends just went to Barcelona six months ago or so and were nervous nellies because of the tourist shenanigans in the news and they absolutely loved it. I have heard nothing but great things about Barcelona from many people who have gone and will definitely go to visit personally at some point.

Thanks. I am not really concerned about Barcelona in general, more about that time of year. I am boxed into my travel times by Wimbledon. The protests against tourists last year seemed to occur starting in early July and were staged in response to heavy tourist numbers in the summer.

I would roll the dice with Barcelona, it is my second favorite city in Europe behind Rome. If it looks like things might be weird, just chill in the smaller towns in the area. The people, food, and culture are fantastic. Girona is a cool little town less than an hour away and all the smaller coastal towns in the region would be glad to see you.

Son went there last June and was not a fan. But I think he didn't plan ahead and wasn't all that sure what to do. That being said - I've heard Madrid is a better visit than Barcelona. But never been to either.

Doing a Scotland/Ireland golf trip around that time and looking at going to Wimbledon as well. Did you get tickets to Wimbledon already? I didn't win the public ballot so trying to figure out how to go about it.

I went online and purchased Debenture tickets. I am likely only going to go once, I don't want to take any chances, and I only want to be on covered courts in case it rains. I also want to give myself the greatest chance I can to see Alcaraz and Rublev. Plus it's going to be my big berfday trip, so I am splurging hugely.

We did a quick trip to Barcelona several years ago. I can't comment on the current protestor situation. But really enjoyed the city. We did a cooking class that met at the local market to do a tour and shop.

I still miss and think about that pork…..

There is never a bad time to go to Barcelona.

Suggest staying in the UK. Head to a coastal town (eg, Brighton) and enjoy the scenery.

Piggy Backing off this. I may have a conference there in November at the CCIB convention center. Where should we stay that's walking distance from there and where should we EAT more importantly???

I was in Barcelona in August. Didn't have any issues.

Wife and I are thinking of going to Barcelona too. Taking weather and crowds into consideration what's everyone's favorite time to go?

Late spring and early fall. The summers are a bit too touristy throughout Southern Europe.

we had a full day to hang out in Barcelona after a cruise. Really loved walking that town.

The Gothic Quarter is pretty awesome. Tons of little restaurants and shops.
