I will have about 10 days in Italy in June after a brief stop in Rome. I really want to go to Southern Italy this time. I'm focused on Puglia, Calabria, and/or Sicily. I would also prefer not to visit more than 2 places. I'm also open to the idea of just picking 1 home base and staying there.

Where would you recommend I start my research? It needs to be locations that are easily connected to public transportation (want to avoid renting a car) and preferably on the beach. This is will be a relaxing trip focused on food, wine, and chilling out!

One no-brainer is the Sorrento/Capri/Amalfi coast area. A lot to see there, and plenty of relaxation opportunities. Probably not a good pick for the budget-conscious, though.

Beautiful area but I've already been there. I'm looking for suggestions for the regions mentioned in my original post.

Sicily is amazing! We went there for almost 2 weeks last summer. If you opt for Sicily, I would recommend staying there for the entire 10 days. There is so much to see…I want to go back because there were so many things we didn't get to do! It truly is the best of everything Italy - food, wine, beaches, countryside/mountains, etc.

I HIGHLY recommend the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento as well as the city of Cefalu. We also went to Taormina but it was not my favorite part of the trip. We had a rental car, and driving was pretty easy.

Let me see if I can find my trip report.

Another amazing trip would be a cruise around the Aeolian Islands. We did a day trip to Alicudi, and it left me wanting more.

Taormina in Sicily, then.
