Wife and I are heading to LT last week of September. Anyone have recommendations on which side to stay on (north vs south), favorite hikes, restaurants, etc?

SLT, maybe Nevada side depending on what you're interested in doing.

Eating, gambling, running into a bear?

You really can't go wrong with either, IMO. Just depends on what you want to do.

We personally like gravitating to the NW/North side of the lake, but have stayed down south a few times and love it there as well. We like the beaches at the state parks on the west side of the lake, and they are easier accessed IMO from a place like Tahoe City if you stay there.

If you want to get out on the water, I would recommend staying somewhere south. Many of the lake activities run out of the south (e.g. fishing, boat tour to Emeral Bay, etc.).

There are good hikes all over the place. The Glen Alpine hike was neat. It's also fun to just hike or head to the rim trail and hike a section of it.

Emerald Bay is the coolest place to see, but be forewarned, it is always very popular. If you can swing it, the earlier that you head there the better, and I recommend a weekday if possible. You can do a twofer here by hiking up to Eagle Lake and also hiking down to Vikingsholm. Another fun thing to do is to hike in from farther out. We hiked down and through from the Upper Eagle Point Campground all the way around the bay up to the Rubicon trailhead.

If you are there for a full week, then you can easily stay on one side of the lake and make a day or 2 out of the other side of the lake if you wish.

I use an app called AllTrails and I recommend it for hiking research. There are really so many hikes and I've only mentioned a few that I have done.

Pardon my rambling, but I love Tahoe.

I've stayed in the Edgewood (Nevada side, South Lake Tahoe) and the Hyatt Regency (Incline Village). Both were very nice. The Edgewood has a beautiful restaurant that was memorable.

We were snow skiing so I'm not sure about hiking.

South side. Play Edgewood.
