Any advice/recommendations for a snorkeling outfit or a morning fishing trip? Any must dos we may not be thinking of? Will be there Thursday afternoon thru Monday. Thanks!

Calypso Grill Is a great restaurant. We also had a good meal at Ristorante Pappagallo on the very north end of the island. As far as snorkeling and fishing, I'm no help. But if you're interested in an intro scuba dive, contact Living the Dream divers. They may be able to steer you in the right direction for the other things, too. They're good people.

Calypso Grill is fantastic... get your reservations early. Two more casual options are Peppers for good jerk and we have always been a fan of Cimboco (love their wood fired jerk chicken pizza).

I will leave others to give advice on snorkel outfitter... we have always done a fair amount directly from shore. Just don't book anything with these groups when cruises are in town.

Protip - get a few of the circular swimway spring floats. They travel easily and the water is typically quite calm letting you float around with drink in your hand as long as you want.

Cars are pretty cheap there considering expense of everything else... I grab one via Hertz every visit. The pick up is short walk out the front door of the airport.

The Sunday brunch at Luca is a can't-miss.

Captain Marvin's did a great charter for us to stingray city and snorkeling. If you want a walk in snorkel place for free governors beach has a Nice reef a couple hundred yards off the shore.

For scuba diving we used deep blue divers and was highly satisfied.

Grand Old House was an amazing dinner with a great view and they have an incredible liquor and cigar selection. Great service. would highly recommend.

We did taxis everywhere we went and it was a little pricey but not bad. Got the # for one guy from our condo concierge and just called him when we needed a ride. Taxi fares are regulated by the state so it should be uniform across anyone you get.

You might want to start talking to your accommodations provider about what happens if Beryl maintains strength as it comes west. It is currently forecast to be a Cat 1 just south of the Caymans on Thursday am. If you are talking about 10 days from now, ignore this, otherwise you might need to start keeping a very close eye on the forecasts for Beryl.

We rented a car thru National and it was easy. You get used to being on the left rather quickly.

I've used Andy's rental car few times with good success, I even got a brand new car from them once that only had 10 miles on it.

For diving I really like Cayman Unviersity Divers.

Small outfit ran by good dude who takes care of you unlike some of the other shops.

The cracked conch / macabuca is great spot for food and they have diving and snorkeling right through the restaurant.

Nothing better than having a caybrew and a jerk burger right after a nice shore dive.

Wife and I just rented scooters for the days we needed to go somewhere.

Check the cruise schedule and book your trip to stingray city around that. We did a bioluminescent kayak excursion one night and it was beautiful.

We had a great lunch at Bar Crudo a few years ago.

Anyone know how Grand Cayman faired in the storm? Aug 2 - Aug 7 trip.

I think they came through fine. The main eyewall complex stayed south of the island. Check with your accommodations provider to be sure, but I have not heard of any large scale damage that would affect you a month out.

Saw an instagram update from the condo we stayed at on seven mile beach. no damage and they were cleaning up the beach yesterday and opening everything up that afternoon.

If you have a car rented, white sand on the east end does excellent snorkeling just inside the reef. And on that end of the island you'll have many of the spots to yourself.

The East End did suffer some damage from the storm so would investigate before making any plans. Seven Mile Beach came out unscathed.

One more... everywhere adds 20% auto gratuity- what's the tip expectation beyond that?

None that I am aware of. Just make sure they actually are adding it before assuming.

Yup. Same rule applies there as in the US from my perspective - if you add the tip, that's all you get (even though I normally would have tipped more)
