We're headed to Vail in August. Any suggestions on things to do? We were thinking rafting one day. Any other can't miss suggestions? Any favorite hikes?

Hike Berry Picker to the top, then ride the gondola down for free!

We did an ATV tour that I think was about 45 min away. There is also a hike to a waterfall just on the edge of town that is really good. We also really enjoyed the farmers market, and the Betty Ford Alpine garden was really pretty. We also went in August, so I was a little surprised by how much was blooming.

Edited to add the hike is Booth Falls/Booth Creek Trail. I would say it's moderately strenuous, and IIRC, parking is very limited.

Ditto! They have bike shops in Vail that will rent the bikes and take you to the top of Vail pass. Great fun!

There is so much to do in Vail in summer. We did golf, whitewater rafting, an ATV tour, float fly fishing on the Colorado River and took the gondola up and mountain biked down the ski slopes. We couldn't decide on our favorite. Our hotel also had bikes which we would just cruise around the trails on.

We looked into this but it'd be over $500 for the 4 of us. We looked at going up the gondola but it's $59 a person for one gondola ride. Does having a ski pass for next season get you any discounts?

We're staying at Tivoli Lodge. We were told it's on the mountain and they have a complementary shuttle that runs through town. We won't have a car.

We stayed at Tivoli lodge for Spring Break. Great location right in the village and gondola.

Free gondola rides. At least that was the deal last year, haven't heard that that's changed for vail properties.

I actually read this morning that you can bike from Vail to Breckenridge on a paved trail called the Vail Pass Bike Path. It is downhill from Vail to Breck and easy enough that kids can do it. 14 miles biking with a lot of scenery. It also passes copper mountain for a good rest stop on the way.

Yea that's part of the path they use for the bike ride where they go from Golden, I think all the way up to Beaver Creek every summer. They close Loveland pass to cars on race day. I've always wanted to do the ride down hill but have never gotten round to it.
