Depending on their ages (my girls are 12, 9, 5), we make an annual day trip a short drive south of town to
Montgomery Reservoir. You go over Hoosier Pass, part way down the steep decline toward Alma, turn off and hit the lake.
It's got great views of towering 14ers 3 I think), a strong stream that feeds into the reservoir, and a fun abandoned silver mine that always has Jeeps trying to tackle the "trail".
Upper and Lower Mohawk lakes are beautiful, but I haven't fished them.
Fortunately, with a short drive and a map, you can hit a good number of Gold Medal sites near Breckenridge.
